You say that as if IQ tests actually mean anything more than an ability to solve IQ tests.
I mean, there are many problems that share aspects with IQ tests ... but real problems aren't nearly as sterile, so the point still kinda' stands that a high IQ does not mean increased real-world problem solving.
... still, if I had to put money on someone, I'm putting it on the IQ above 79!
The point isn't whether the tests objectively mean anything. It's that the guy in the picture is claiming it does. He's saying it's showing his superiority while he can't even comprehend the implications of the result chart he posted.
I don't disagree, my only point is that the worth of IQ tests is even less than they make out.
Ehh, while obviously imperfect in measuring intelligence, it does measure problem solving skills, which is a sign of intelligence. But only a small part of the larger intelligence, which can't be measured completely in any way.
They are relatively useful at comparing how mentally adroit you are with your peers.
I have a relatively high IQ and I'm fairly mentally adroit, but the things that I'm stupid on I got stupid on them faster than people with lower IQs would have.
I also know somebody who has an 85 IQ and a PhD and she's fucking brilliant. She just feels that she had to put more work in because of her IQ and so she did.
If I had done the same I might be on the same level as her but I am not.
Yeah, the real trick to getting a PhD is perseverance and masochism.
Diploma by attrition. LOL
See, I call bullshit on all of that. Your friend isn't lacking, the tests are lacking. And you aren't lacking, the tests are. Both of you have triumphed against that, but really you probably could have done better if the whole system was more accommodating.
You and your friend are probably very competent people. Hell, she has a PhD, that's already above the majority - even if she hasn't finished it yet. Neither of you should put yourselves down in any way; you have already established yourselves in your respective disciplines. An IQ test cannot prove this - because an IQ test only focuses on IQ test problems. Whether or not you'd do well with IQ test problems, that isn't relevant for what you're doing - and what you're doing is beyond the skills of the wankers who jerk themselves off over some arbitrary number.
And I haven't even bothered to look up what adroit means. That sounds French, and I have the urge to give the classic British 2 fingered salute in reply lol.
Adroitness is just quickness/nimbleness, so if you're mentally adroit you're mentally nimble.
