Naomi is a person I first encountered on "odyssey" platform ...
Imagine having girlfriend like that, but now give a shot and listen this great interview with her!

I usually do not like/prefer "user-friendly" solutions, but this interview changed my mind a little and ...
i think we need some stuff to be user-friedly, because everyone deserve privacy and freedom.

How you get Hacked: what attackers use today

My comment:
I don't think video presented something new for me. And at this point i need to release my rage towards "content creators" that teach You something and they use tools by company that paid for ad...

In Polish youtube, i found great video about making "own VPN" - why i didn't liked video? because You didn't build "your own VPN from scratch" or something, but by using cloud*hit solution ...

Imagine learning anything from youtube.

Okay but, who learned people to make money on youtube? ... google!

People made content even for free in the past!

Because google started to pay, now You have like tons of creators that make cheap content just for clicks.

And yes, there's very little of good and quality content. There's very little number of creators that makes very good job.
The others just want to clickbait You and waste Your time on stuff You can find out in minute on the web.

--

If they force ads You will have max 15, maybe 20 minute video ... Now how much time You will waste if we get forced ads + creator sponsorship block on the video timeline?

IDK how others but, if i need something, i search on the web and buy it. I do not see point wasting my time by hearing another "this video is sponsored by" or watching ad about something i'm not interested, or i do not need at all.

I'm too strong, and they are unable to create a need in me with ad ... this is complete waste of time, and because this is MY TIME ... they should PAY ME for wasting THAT TIME.

I'm adult and I RESPECT, MY TIME. I do not feel i should pay someone for this, this is insane. It's better off not wasting time at all and buy a book.

"It's really hard to make money in other way than ads." - yes, and no one told us before we born that anything will be easy ๐Ÿ™‚

About netflix, i promise You that ... any tv show i watched, was with sub.

And i told my sister that if we get release of another season of Arcane, Wednesday, One Piece then we get sub for month and watch stuff we want.

I respect Your POV, but when it comes to ads, i do not feel this is okay.

YouTube "Ad Injections" Are Breaking Ad Blockers

"The day Ad Block no longer works.... I will no longer using youtube" - I noticed that some people treat this comment as a joke, or whatever but ...
I personally will give up on youtube if this happens. I really plan detox.

Do we have alternative?
Yes, in form of BLOGS!

Here on mastodon, there's a lot of great people that have value too, and many have personal blogs - i think they are worth of attention.

Because businesses, tech companies overload web with garbage ... what we need is to build a "space" without that crap.

A small little space in web, like BSD Cafe.

I learned how to live without facebook, i never touched things like tiktok etc. . .

I'm ready to ditch my google account. The last piece... is to just buy a new phone, install alternative OS on mobile and at this point i will be done with google.

People need to build their own spaces and services.

It's important to teach people reaching this kind of independence.

To have better web, we need to start small and built it by yourself ... it's sad but true.

What big tech companies do is out of control anyway.

@0x1eef @technews

Since their existence.

"Linux is a cancer that attaches itself in an intellectual property sense to everything it touches" ~ Steve Ballmer

Ofc. He later "changed mind" ... but microsoft never change. In the 90's they tried force users to use their browser too ...
well, this also changed recently with Edge ... but usually they repeat the same thing over and over again testing boundaries of users and looking how much they are able to 'accept'.

I don't remember full history of Windows, but i noticed they repeat the same old sh**. Just dressed in new clothes.

Sometimes i feel this could be good material for public.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

@jcamos @robonuggie @freebsd

Yes, He do this for years. That's impressive! ๐Ÿ‘
I also remember times when iBSD was active for a while.

@grahamperrin @offtopic Thank you. And don't worry, i don't believe that every corner of reddit is the same.

And to be fair. I said that some people are fanatical, and i'm kinda too. (I silently want to push BlendIT as preferred place! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ).

But now serious, on the other hand... popularity comes at price.

I'm sorry for offtopic but, reddit is still needed.

Take a look for example on youtube creators. When they start, they have small but very nice and passionate community. But when channel grows, popularity increase and suddenly you can meet all sorts of people... quality in discussions can decrease.

I think, sometimes popularity isn't good. And i hope i will always be 'average joe'.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

@grahamperrin @offtopic

I respect your opinion.

I never used r/freebsd and can't really tell how stuff looks there.

My general experience with reddit was bad.

I also agree with author that upvote/downvote system doesn't work.

Sometimes you can find posts that are not verified, but are upvoted because 'it fits' individual... facts doesn't matter to some people.

I don't want even mention biases about linux distros, or posts like '... why you use x, not "better"/"cool"/"such modern" y?' or worse 'use y, not x' - like a command ๐Ÿ˜‚

To not being completely 'negative', ofc. you can find quality posts and replies. But some people are like mechanical parrot, and ... fanatical.

Sometimes good post can be 'downvoted to death'.

Don't judge me, i totally respect your view. Maybe i had too many bad experiences.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

@Wyatt @openbsd

I understand that (everything good requires time). There's a lot of things i still learn on FreeBSD. I love poudriere, and i hope one day i will publish some 'starter' for people who knows gentoo.

btw. compiling rust here is annoying too.

Btw. Guix is great, @daviwil makes great content in this topic.

[-] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago

@stefano I was thinking about the same, some time ago. This also could benefit this place.

I'm really grateful that this place exist, and i hope more people will prefer this over reddit/discord or other junk.

Thank you!
