I purchased a used iPhone SE 2 for my son from Amazon for $140. This phone had a brand new battery and the screen and back glass are flawless. I was very impressed.

However, if you love the iPhone SE 1, I think that the iPhone 13 mini would replace it well. You would keep the squared off aesthetic, but gain a lot of usable screen real estate. The latest iPhone SE phones are the same size as an iphone 6, and similar to the mini, but they have lower end features and the round aesthetic. The only deal breaker I see is that the SE phones have touch ID rather than Face ID. Not sure which she would prefer. (I would love to have both!)

The myColorado app is great as it stores a legal ID (except for police interactions???) as well as insurance and vaccine info. Colorado also supports the Apple wallet implementation, which is absolutely useless. The Apple wallet version can only be used at an airport, but when when I tried to use it at DIA the TSA officer just said "no". I think Apple may be the one who is doing it wrong...

I think we all need to do a little more commenting on top of our lurking. I would also like to reiterate my thanks. But mostly, we just need more comments!

Thank you for your comment. At this point, any comment helps with exposure.

Until these communities get more active, you all will have to deal with my low rate posts.

  1. Camping!

I used to use Gaia GPS extensively as they have a lot of overlays and it can be downloaded for offline use. However, the interface is not good, and they are constantly breaking things that seem to show up after you become "off grid". The final straw for me to delete the app and cancel my subscription was that the app was running 24/7 on my iPhone when it should not have been and was eating 20% of my battery daily without actually using it.

I have found the Forest Service MVUM to be extremely helpful in locating approximate locations where dispersed camping is allowed. Here is an example of a page on the Forest Service with these maps. In this case it is for the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/arp/home/?cid=fsm91_058275

One thing about these maps is that the website assumes you know if you are looking for the "Sulphur Ranger District North" or the "Clear Creek Ranger Disctrict". Going in, it is very intimidating.

One tool that can make the maps more useful than just a generic PDF is the app called Avenza. They are happy to sell you all sorts of maps, but these MVUM maps are available for free. The benefit of the app is that it will use your GPS to show you where you are on the MVUM in real time.

Way back in the day I used to use an app called "Motion X GPS". This app seemed to really just be a demo of the Motion X companies capabilities and they eventually abandoned it. It was great for just being a generic GPS device, replicating the normal use cases of a handheld Garmin.

Another tool I use extensively is any mapping software/site that can show decent satellite imagery. I will look along a road marked in the MVUM as allowing camping for offshoots that can be parked on, and if the imagery is good, for a fire ring.

I want to use this community as the "general" community of this instance. There is already a much more popular Colorado community on lemmy.world, and it is unlikely that this will replace it or properly augment it in that same way.

Next, I wanted to create a community on this instance that is new and useful, not just a replication of something on other instances. The first thing that seems to not exist in its own right and makes sense on this instance is Colorado Camping and Hiking.

With all of the lemmy.world ddos attacks and the brief time when the .ml sites had trouble with their TLD status, I think it shows that a little bit of diversification is helpful.

Anyone else have an idea for a community that would make sense here?

I know I'm a fanboy, but I have been using apple maps since iOS 6 beta and it has been great for me. Maybe I just happened to be in parts of the world where it just worked better. Often when I would find an issue, I would check google, and google had the same issue.

In a quote from the article: "...the city of Denver, known for its culinary vibrancy and food enthusiasts"

Nothing says culinary vibrancy and food enthusiasts like one more burger chain outlet! Now our gourmet food selection finally includes a burger. The mighty burrito and pizza offerings finally have some competition.

Club Dread is my favorite Broken Lizard film. I guess that is my humor, and it is not for everyone.

Anyone know where I fill out the form to receive my new 4 bedroom 3 bathroom single family home in LoHi?

The first time I read this comment it was a word salad. Now I’m in a better place and it is absolute poetry.

Subscription fees are part of this but I think the direct pipeline to the customer data is a bigger factor.

I switched from lastpass to 1Password shortly after they sold to logmein or whatever. I have lately been eyeing the whole suite offered by https://proton.me

I would entertain the idea of using Apple keychain, but I am really hooked on password sharing with the family. Have not seen a good implementation from Apple yet, but maybe it is on the way (or I missed it!).

I did a bad job on my DuckDuckGo'ing initially. After a second try and better keywords I found this document: https://www.denvergov.org/content/dam/denvergov/Portals/747/documents/policy/DPR-Alcohol-Policy.pdf

The most useful text is found in Section 2, and I am highlighting it here for convenience.

Possession, consumption, sale or service must be in compliance with State Law including, but not limited to, no consumption by persons under the age of 21 and as otherwise prohibited. In addition to the above restrictions, the following restrictions apply unless authorized by a Concession License, a Contract, or a duly issued Permit:

  1. Kegs and glass containers are prohibited.
  2. Alcohol Beverages may not be possessed or consumed in parkways.
  3. Alcohol Beverages may not be possessed or consumed within the boundary of any pool.
  4. Alcohol Beverages may not be possessed or consumed within the boundary of any playground.
  5. Alcohol Beverages may not be possessed or consumed within twenty-five (25) feet of any entrance to a recreation or senior center.
  6. Alcohol Beverages may not be possessed or consumed within the boundary of any skate park.
  7. Alcohol Beverages may not be possessed or consumed within the boundary of any bike park.

Most city parks previously had a policy easily visible and posted indicated that 3.2 beer was the only allowed alcoholic beverage. I have recently found signs at Jefferson Park and the pirate ship park at Sloans lake indicating that hard alcohol, glass bottles and kegs are prohibited, but the language seems to specifically leave beer and wine (without glass) off the prohibition.

Jefferson Park sign

Sloans Lake old 3.2 sign

Sloans lake new sign

Does anyone have a reference for the generic city wide policy? There is no sign at my local park, and I want to know what the default setup is.

I’m a lowly USG-3P user with a couple 8 port POE switches and 4 APs running my controller off of a RPI4. However, a friend wanted to go all in, so I helped him to spend his money…

I hope to post some more pictures as it goes along. We made some progress that is not shown, but neither of us are experts, nor are we OCD.

One unexpected exciting feature is the built in ad blocker in the UDM-SE, which is quite effective.

I’m seeing a lot less communities on this instance when I look at “All”. Are we blocked from several instances, limiting what we can see?

Wanted to check on the trail status before trying to use it today. This popped to the top of DDG. There is also an interesting chart for the level of the cherry creek. https://waterdata.usgs.gov/monitoring-location/06713500/#parameterCode=00065&period=P7D

Bottom line is that today the trail is only flooded in one place, but muddy in several.

This progressive web app does not need a beta invite and should work on android. It is only being tested for iOS at the moment, but it is very slick so far.

The rapid pace of development on lemmy and lemmy apps is wild to be witnessing live.
