That's not even a day's worth of profit.

And now, it's back the other way, with too many web sites (including this one) tailored too far for mobile sites and not enough focus on desktops.
If lemmy.world went down, so would most of Lemmy, so this is already a huge problem.
Newsflash: It's getting bigger as we speak. Prepare for all of the scalability problems now, not later when it's even harder to fix.
That seems like an ActivityPub problem, not a problem with the admin who lost the domain. Perhaps somebody should fix dumbass design flaws to the protocol.
Federations won't survive with obvious flaws like that. It needs resilienacy.
But, people won't just move off of their instance for no reason. The general public is too stuck on the idea that Lemmy is one domain and that your account is important to keep.
What org? Not lemmy.org. Join-lemmy.org is too big.
Personally I would suggest lemmy.world
Please god no! A majority of the Lemmy population is already on that server. It's presence on SEO and everybody's insistence to use that server is already a problem with trying to push a federated model. The owner's vain goal of trying to maintain the largest Lemmy server isn't helping matters.
We're already in a position where, if lemmy.world went down, the Lemmy federation would be in a crippled state.
Thank god it's not lemmy.world. Far too many people think that's the "main" or only Lemmy server.
I don't mind 30-40 hours as long as it has a definite end to it. I might play side quests if it's a really good game and I don't want the finale of reaching the end yet.
The article's age invalidates any other discussion, IMO. Far far too much has changed, including all of the new implementations, and it needs another good re-assessment.
