I don't know why this is such a surprise. Republicans want to banish anybody who's different from them: blacks, gays, trans, liberals, strong and independent women, anybody with a shred of empathy.

Republicans saying the quiet part out loud doesn't really change anything.

Ideally with the visual impact of the shotguns in Armored Core 6, because god damn, reach for the stars.

I mean, if you ain't trying to make military weapons that resemble mech weapons, you're just doing something wrong.

This implies any of the amoral, unempathetic people responsible for this ideology actually gave a flying fuck about "the people".

Yeah, Rust is cool, but every CS grad and their mother knows Java.

Sure, twenty-five years ago, when Sun was pushing their language hard into colleges everywhere.

Now? Sun Microsystems doesn't even exist, and everybody hates the JVM in an ecosystem where VMWare, Docker, and Kubernetes do the whole "virtual machine" model much better.

an alternative Java-based backend to Lemmy’s Rust-based one

Going from a modern well-designed language to an old-and-busted, kitschy, memory-hogging, bloated language. This is literally a step backwards.

Rust, Go... hell, even Ruby-on-Rails or whatever Python is offering nowadays would be a better choice.

And yet, people continue to think it will protect us from the Big Bad AI threat.

Copyright is a tool of the rich, invented to protect mega-corporations that play their legal games with patents, copyrights, and trademarks. Forever expanded to ensure they own as much media as possible without giving it back to the public domain, where it rightfully belongs. The lowly creator can pretend their copyrights protect them, but they will be dragged into legal battles they cannot afford when push comes to shove.

I also recommend Grim Beard and Pushing Up Roses for similar content.

One of the best and most useful items in the game.

Actually, it was to turn on the light.

I knew a co-worker who was really into a lot of early and more modern text adventure games. He said the babelfish puzzle was one of the hardest puzzles put in any text adventure game, past or present.
