And even then the code was far from the best it could be.

This guy optimized Super Mario 64 and drastically improved performance while fixing several bugs.

They'd be losing access to the most critical thing that makes them effective: the US military's logistics and chain of command. Without that they really are just some dudes with guns and a few fancy toys they won't be able to keep operational or replace. And they could never leave the state.

So as long as they aren't causing too much trouble ... just wait them out, then make an example of them in a military court.

I imagine NY won't screw around enforcing that judgement. If he doesn't want to pay, he has plenty of assets that can be seized: like 721–725 Fifth Avenue

Sure, Trump's will try every legal trick his team can think of to delay or avoid paying out -- but there is ultimately recourse.

There's also the difference between "painless" and "easy to watch". Lethal injection looks humane because they inject the person with a paralytic, so regardless of what happens it looks "peaceful".

One of the drugs sometimes used (succinylcholine chloride) is fucking terrifying, because it's a paralytic with no anesthetic effect. Given alone a person under its effects is aware of what's going on while paralyzed and unable to breath.

They also seriously injure the people they do hit.

A car tends to hit low and send people onto the hood. A truck hits high (head and torso injuries) and knocks people to the ground where they get run over.

And make sure you shave your legs with the grain, not against. Ingrown hairs suck.

Sleep is for chucking the laptop in a bag and not interrupting your work flow.

Real men just touch the chassis.

I know I'm late to the party, but my go-to refutation is "Ok, name one school that's doing that. Go ahead and look it up on your phone."

Then point out if a single school actually did have litter boxes for the kids the name of the school and everyone involved would be easy to find. It's not something that could be kept secret: just one person has to say something -- a kid talking to their relative, faculty, a parent, etc. Once that happened FOX, OANN, etc would be on that like flies on shit ... and they would name and shame.

But they aren't, because it's bullshit.

I'm running a Venstar Colortouch thermostat. They're not cheap, but they have a local API and there's a Homeassistant integration.

If I worked for animal control and some dipshit school administer asked be to come collect a human child from their school, they would receive the following with the minimum amount of tact needed to keep my job:

  • "I don't care that's it's a law -- that law was written by morons. You're a moron too."
  • Variations of "What the hell is wrong with you?", "I don't work for you", and "Go fuck yourself".

I'd like to think most of the people actually employed as animal control officers would respond the same way.
