There are too many instances of capitalist delusions to count, but the fact that he thinks that the stupid line city is the model for an ideal society has got to be the cherry on top.

Political system is explicitly undemocratic, every political institution is biased in favor of the right, both major political parties refuse to support popular legislation that would improve people's lives

"Why don't Americans trust their institutions?"

The utility calculation is dead simple

I want to know what kind of backup plans these people have in mind, if it really is so important that Trump does not become president again. I'm just saying, if enough people refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of injust laws (y'know, like the explicitly undemocratic ones which let Trump win last time) and carry out disruptive protests (at the bare minimum) against it, it becomes harder for that law to stay intact. Which is kind of important, since there hasn't been much success in getting rid of terrible, unpopular laws through the "proper" channels. It doesn't even interfere with voting, so it's not like they have an excuse to not plan for that.

This is comparable to the phase where the world was starting to sanction apartheid South Africa and even the US and its allies had to start cutting ties because it was getting too embarrassing, right? I hope that the historical parallel rings true here.

Furthermore, we estimate that ensuring healthcare access for all Americans would save over 68,000 lives and 1.73 million life-years every year.
We calculate that a single-payer, universal healthcare system is likely to lead to a 13% savings in national healthcare expenditure, equivalent to over $450 billion annually.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8572548/

Every president or presidential candidate who is against universal healthcare is essentially saying that they are willing to allow a quarter of a million people to die (and waste 2 trillion dollars) over the course of their term in order to protect the profits of healthcare companies. Do they really expect us to forget the fact that most prominent Democrats supported that level of social murder only a few years ago?

It's a stiff competition, but the idea that women are biologically incapable of flying airplanes has got to be one of the dumbest right-wing culture war talking points out there.

Edit: Also, the fact that his wife is a pilot explains a lot; I don't know how anyone could tolerate being married to The Quartering if they weren't away from home all the time.

It really is crazy how American view their cars as personal tanks protecting them against other drivers which leads to them trying to make cars indestructible, forgetting that insufficient cushioning for the squishy human inside is much, much more likely to kill them.

Also they need bulletproof glass to protect them from the "criminals", which is why a less car-centric society is a completely terrifying prospect. But at the same time they also believe that we shouldn't reduce the number of guns in the country and everyone should be armed to the teeth at all times.

I am certainly no fan of George W Bush, but what I’m saying is that every single sensible person that can come out against this orange nutboy, the better. Even if 1,000 people who thought George W bush was awesome reconsiders their vote, it’s a good thing.

Hey, you guys have been doing great with Arab and Muslim voters recently, right? I'm sure that more than 1,000 of them would change their vote after seeing you be friendly with Bush. Surely nobody would finally come to realize that Democrats really stand for nothing after seeing that.

MSNBC columnist and former U.S. attorney Joyce Vance called Trump’s scrutinizing of Haley's citizenship "an offensive question that’s contrary to American values.

“The Founding Fathers imposed a restriction, but it’s hard to believe that it was meant to burden a second generation of American citizens born on American soil like Nikki Haley," Vance added. "But nonetheless, the question of the term ‘natural born citizen’ has not been fully fleshed out in the courts, and it may be that Trump is relegating us to more meaningless discourse in this area just like he did with the birther lies about Obama.”

Love how when a racist and xenophobic law is invoked to make racist and xenophobic political attacks, their response is not to point out that such a law should not exist in an actual democracy, but to argue that the Founding Fathers only intended to be xenophobic towards first-generation immigrants and not second-generation immigrants. I'm pretty sure that if the Founding Fathers heard about this they'd be more offended to learn that women and non-white people were allowed to run for office in the first place.

The creator of the flag was not only a slaveowner but also owned a port where an estimated 100,000 slaves were brought in from Africa.
