I love technology connection videos. He overexplains the minutiae of everything he covers and I love it.

After shooting the shit for the customary 5 min, it's usually

  • Talking about efforts to mentor junior devs on the team. How they're doing, etc
  • Catching my manager up on convos and meetings they missed recently
  • Them explaining some new system or codebase I haven't worked with yet
  • some sort of HR thing (Raises, PTO, performance reviews, etc)

Agreed, all the employees hate it

This is absolutely a thing they do at the tech company I work at too. There's hard limits on how many people can be rated anything 4 stars and up. Managers have to go to "calibration meetings" where they argue, in front of HR, with other managers about why their employee deserves one of the spots in the 4 (or more) stars club.
