I'm curious about when we might see the next AMD refresh for the Framework Laptop 13. The current top-spec option is the Ryzen 7 7840U, which was introduced in early 2023 and started shipping in Q3 2023. Given AMD's latest offerings and Framework's history of timely updates, soon we might expect to see a new mainboard featuring AMD's newer CPUs, like those from the Ryzen 8040 series or the upcoming Ryzen 9000 series.

  • Ryzen 7 7840U:
    • Architecture: Zen 4
    • Cores/Threads: 8/16
    • Base/Boost Clock: 3.3 GHz / 5.1 GHz
    • TDP: 15-28W
    • Integrated GPU: Radeon 780M

Potential New CPUs:

  • Ryzen 8040 Series: Higher base and boost clocks, improved power efficiency, and enhanced RDNA 2 or RDNA 3 integrated graphics.
  • Ryzen 9000 Series: Zen 5 architecture, up to 16 cores and 32 threads, improved AI processing capabilities, and better power efficiency.

Framework has consistently updated its laptops with the latest Intel and AMD CPUs, so it seems we might be due for a refresh soon.

What are your expectations for the next AMD mainboard refresh?

Switched to this a couple weeks ago. I'm used to swipe typing on gboard. Unfortunately the swipe typing on FUTO is nowhere near useable for me yet. The accuracy is horrendous, and much of the time it just gives up on inputting any word at all.

Unfortunately swiping on Gboard has been my main method of typing for more than a decade. I'm so accustomed to it that I can type full sentences without even looking at my phone.

So in an effort to improve my privacy (by discontinuing my use of a piece of keylogging spyware as a keyboard) I've sacrificed the speed of swipe typing. Everything takes much longer to type now. Worth it? I guess I'll keep trying for a month or so and decide then.

Couldn't possibly agree more. One of the biggest barriers to sharing my enthusiasm for Linux with my friends is filtering out all of the cringey anime weeb shit that somehow gets posted along with it. Why does open source software need to be associated with creepy drawings of little girls? Absolutely the worst vibes.

How about TWO layers of tissue? Checkmate, scientists.

Signed, the toilet seat nest-builders of the world.

Can it be implied that they're very graphic?

LOL I'm never retiring. I've already accepted that I'll be working until I'm dead. There are those who get dealt the right cards and will get to retire comfortably. I'm just not one of them.

Ofc, Apple being Apple, I wouldn't put it past them to artificially "break" things or arbitrarily introduce limits between RCS and iMessage

That's where my money is

LOL I always knew that creepy Life360 shit would come back to bite people in the ass eventually.

They probably will. They're aware of and actively foster the "in-group" psychology that plays out in youth social circles. Anyone with a non-Apple phone is excluded as lower class, weird, or less-than. You don't get included in the group chats that are often the center of your peers' social lives because no one wants the annoyance of dealing with the limitations of conversing with a green bubble. You must conform, purchase the correct products, and sign over your life to the correct social media platforms if you want to participate in society.

Good Lord. Was Dungeons and Dragons conceived and engineered from the ground up for the specific purpose of exploiting the dopamine pathways in children's brains? Not so much. Sounds like tiktok has successfully eroded the minds of others in this thread.

The kids are exposed to these hyper addictive algorithms, and the garbage content that gains ubiquity as a result, from a super young age. There is no way it's not screwing up development.

I dropped Instagram, and couldn't be happier to have left that cesspool behind. No Facebook, no Instagram, no Tik Tok, no Snapchat, no LinkedIn, no no no. I'm done with the bullshit. Need to contact me? Then you probably already have my phone number, text or call. Don't have my number? Sounds like you probably don't need to get in touch with me, then.

Don't you love how Saudi Arabia, the country who was very obviously behind 9/11, hasn't suffered a single negative consequence as a result of their actions? They literally got away with 9/11. And then the US invaded some unrelated countries. Mind blowing.

I was a long-time subscriber to Sync For Reddit, until the great third party app purge last year when I just boycotted Reddit altogether. Now, a year later, I'm looking to fill that content hole with Lemmy, and stumbled across Sync For Lemmy. I love it! The one functionality I miss from SFR was the embedded player for YouTube videos. It seems that YouTube links will open only in the YouTube app or the external web browser. Is there a plan to reimplement the built-in player?
