If you can get past the tank controls and prerendered backgrounds, it's a pretty decent game.

I don't mind those things at all, I love that stuff. It's interesting seeing pre-rendered backgrounds in a PS2 game though, don't recall many (or any) of the PS2 games I played back then having them. While they're cool, they're not the most future-proof. I now have upscaled 1080p character models running around in 480p jpegs

Pfft, couldn't even withstand authentic Gamer Musk©???

Not every game needs to be in first person or have an over-the-shoulder third person camera because not every game is an action game where you need complete spatial awareness at all times

But regardless, I think the vast majority of games with sexy horny are doing it just for sale

Honestly, I think a lot of it was historically simply the devs' own unexamined horniness

It's snowing outside currently. The streets were basically completely free of snow and ice for a week or two and you could just feel spring was finally arriving. I was already happily riding my bike to places, then there was a ton of snow just dumped randomly overnight a few days ago, even more currently and it looks like we're back to February outside

Ones he's told me he dislikes:

Fire Emblem (one of the GBA ones)
Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town.

Those would make sense given they are probably wordier/more menu-driven/less based on action than the others you mentioned. (Pokemon is those things too, but Pokemon is crack for kids)

Considering how bleak Ground Zeroes was I was expecting some stomach-churning shit out of Phantom Pain, but nope, that didn't happen. I was really looking forward to seeing Big Boss getting tangled in some actual 80s conflicts in a fun and interesting way after how 3 and especially PW weaved in real history but nope, the entire game is about tracking down Cypher who are a completely boring and generic all-powerful organisation in the Hydra mould. I mean yes, there is the Soviet invasion of Afganistan going on but it feels like a complete background event. There are no Soviet characters and no Afghan characters and neither faction factors into the plot at all. After characters like Amanda and Chico in PW I was expecting some interesting side characters but no, all you get is fucking Code Talker. Whatever's going on in the Africa portions and the generic mercs that patrol the map like giant spiders in an MMORPG is even less well defined

Also, I was fuming when I realised Kojima had brought back all the infuriatingly stupid nanomachine handweave magic bullshit from 4 and just find-replaced "nanomachine" with "parasite" while also somehow making it even dumber. My pet theory is that PW wasn't even actually written by Kojima or he delegated most of it to an intern while he was busy dreamily staring at pictures of Kiefer Sutherland and Norman Reedus

What are some games he's liked and disliked, out of sheer curiosity 🤔

I'm really disappointed in these tweets I've been seeing from Momiji on Hexbear lately. I cannot believe the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden character was this reactionary all along obama-sad

I'd still take PW over 4 and 5 any day just on the story and characterisation, but boy would I love to see Peace Walker done with MGSV's gameplay. MGSV was in many ways a big next gen home console version of Peace Walker but with a boring chopped up story and bland characters

The model viewer is the only place in the entire game where you can actually see many of the game's characters in 3D since they don't appear during gameplay and only exist in 2D cutscenes and codec calls. I love Peace Walker but I badly wish it hadn't been a PSP game

Another thoroughly unremarkable Sony product, but I got a kick out of Jay and Rich making fun of anti-woke Youtube ragebait peddlers at around 13:26, even calling them grifters

Is that why libertarian-approaching identifies with him

He self-deprecatingly described it as Biohazard for ojisans

agony-wholesome

Really makes me feel immersed in the Japanese language. This is a common problem with Duolingo- no matter what language you study, the material just feels American commercial-district

And before you ask, no, I did not pay for the subscription, they randomly gave me three free days of Plus, or Super, or whatever it is. Imagine paying for Duolingo data-laughing

Yes, what the flavour text calls "boxes of grain" in some guy's basement have BRITISH ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION 1907 stamped on them, and having finished Rule of Rose I can confidently say it's completely incongrous with the game's narrative (though seeing these boxes made me think the plot was heading for some kind of bizarre turn.) Presumably the texture is from some big pile of old British reference materials the team used considering the surprisingly authentic old timey UK flavour the game's environments had, especially for a Japanese game from the time:

They put an actual ad for Bovril in the game michael-laugh

For another great example, the REmake remaster allowed you to clearly see a ton of assets that you would've only previously seen on a fuzzy tube television, like this bottle:

The Japanese written in romaji translates to something like "Did you know? SERUM means serum. I have no clue but I think it's English. I have run out of things to write."

Just weird clickbait with fake makeup and prosthetics completely unrelated to what I'm searching

Obviously it's less bad than actual death and gore but it's still unpleasant to scroll through

Youtube's search function has been complete shit for a long time now anyway, you get like three actual search results before it starts showing you shorts, videos you've already watched and stuff from your recommendations

Come on grandmas picard-annoyed

Aww sicko-wistful

cat-vibing me as I'm getting mobbed to death by weird little rat children

I knew nothing about Rule of Rose going in aside that it was rare and that it had been banned in some European countries, but I'm beginning to enjoy this game. I would describe its gameplay as store brand Silent Hill but it's got a unique atmosphere, nice music and it's odd enough to hold your interest. Still no real idea where this plot is going

Politics report: I'm sad to report there are some worryingly political words being used, like working class, lower class and bourgeoisie, meaning it might not be 100% gamer friendly 😔

There is something incredibly perverse and funny seeing the pronounjak crowd appropriate left-wing activist language and slogans and applying them to their culture war talking point du jour

spoilerIf you have don't have any clue what this word salad is, Sweet Baby inc is some video game story consultancy firm that gamers have decided is reaponsible for making every character gay, trans and ugly. Someone started a curated Steam collection for games they've worked on so freeze-gamers can boycott them
