It wasn't well balanced but it was a good RPG experience. Oblivion had a bunch of elements stripped out, but it was still an RPG, the wonky alphabetical voice acting aside. Skyrim felt like a cookie-cutter action adventure game, all the roleplay had flown out the window.

First is financially successful, it generated some decent profits for the stockholders.

This is the only sort of success they care about. Anything else is secondary. These companies gladly burn bridges with their communities so long as they believe it'll benefit their bottom-line.

Wow. Took them fucking long enough. They’ve been doing that with LGBTQ+ videos for ages already, so it’s not like the tech hasn’t been there. For shame.

I mean, Winston Churchill most definitely was a villain. He wasn’t the villain of WWII, but undoubtedly a villain.

He was intensely racist, had no problem using Indian people in his army while censoring their letters, as a famine he had a hand in creating killed over three million people.

That’s no excuse for peddling propaganda-Nazi propaganda, though. I thought that was kind of this guy’s shtick?

This is an interesting read. English isn't my native language, and while I'm quite proficient, I lack a lot of cultural context, particularly when it comes to American English. My partner is American, and through/with them I've learned a lot of problematic phrases and expressions. It's baffling just how much language is used to dehumanise, other, and discriminate against people.

That's not to say it doesn't happen in my native tongue, it definitely does, but I guess it's more baffling when it's something that's unfamiliar to you.

Marijuana obviously sounds like it's rooted in Spanish, but I never thought much about it. If you'd asked me, I'd just wager a guess that it's the Spanish term for it. I hate how oftentimes when I start poking at these preconceived notions, an uglier reality reveals itself. It's never as benign as I initially believe.

Cloudflare took down our website after trying to force us to pay 120k$ within 24h

Yikes. That sounds bad.

I'm a SysOps engineer at a fairly large online casino.

Okay all my sympathy is gone. Online casinos deserve to die.

That said, my feelings towards economic vampires aside, the way the events unfolded is concerning to say the least. Cloudflare has been racking up evil-corp points quite rapidly in recent months.

I mean these kinds of "AI companions" are grifts anyway. They won't take off because they are a solution looking for a problem. They aren't as affordable as the entry level HomePod/Amazon Pod/Google Home units, so they can't be bought as a "why not, and it's a speaker anyway" type thing. They don't have any secondary functionality you don't already have in your phone.

And if that's not enough, you can bet your cute arse on that Apple and Google are both working on bringing LLM functions into their assistants, basically making these units obsolete.

The moment that these companies decide that they can't afford to pay for servers and API subscriptions anymore, the service will die and you'll end up with a colourful brick. Don't buy these things, they're unfinished and will die within a year or two.

Lmao. I’ve no love for Apple, and even less for Epic. It’s like two grotesquely unlovable toddlers are throwing a hissy fit in their little sandbox and I’m here for it.

Using someone’s preferred pronouns isn’t woke, it’s basic human decency.

I feel like the overall engagement has increased. I see a lot more niche communities (like people butchering their VWs in various ways 😂) and it’s nice! There’s generally conversation to be had and such, it feels like a healthy platform.

Lemmy slotted in the gap that Reddit left really easily for me, and I’m getting what I wanted from the platform.

I can't wait for the "GenZ are killing the restaurant business!" headlines.

This is my favourite. 痔 means haemorrhoid. Presumably it was meant to say 侍, samurai.

Any thoughts on the new mount? Personally I love it! It reminds me so much of the Sulyvahn's Beast enemies in Dark Souls 3.

Who's a good boy?
