Winning doesn't just mean blowing stuff up more than the other guy, it means achieving political objectives. The Americans didn't get lose militarily in Afghanistan but they were nevertheless defeated. I'm not sure what such a bleeding wound occupation scenario would look like in this situation. Even though the possibility of ukrainian victory on the battlefield has been foreclosed, it remains to be seen to what degree ukraine is still used as a cat's paw against Russia in 3, 10, 20 years.
