As a not American, this a completely different spin from what I was expecting.

I'm not into US politics other than the basics, but let me tell every American that the consequences of something like this happening will be catastrophic, and then you'll "fight" China alone, if not with more opponents.

Trump was already a huge liability to European foreign policy, if it happens again, the EU will dissociate from the US, weaponize and go nuclear. The eastern countries will enter direct conflict with Russia eventually (sooner than later), and the whole continent will get dragged into the war. At the end who ever is left will not support the US, actively be against it, and have nuclear weapons.

He was confrontational, aggressive and was hitting the cops. He should have been arrested.

There might be a problem with the suspension.

Fair enough, even if a far-fetched scenario in my opinion. There's a bit over estimated sense of how much the community is worth to Meta.

Why can't people vote for this?

I'm a lot more optimistic (aka naive) than most it seems.

I'm really new to all this fediverse stuff, but I believe we can't lose what we already have, people that are here before Threads, will probably be here after Threads, since we already made that decision to leave reddit or twitter, to leave all that behind is a big social sacrifice.

My red line for Threads will be if they start to mess with the standards and the ActivityPub protocol, acting in bad faith.

So we're all pro federation and decentralization, until we aren't... I think this is a very preemptive and paranoid measure, but thankfully it will work out just as the technology was built for, some will block, some wont, everyone will make their choice, and be happy in their corner of the internet.

There's a reason nobody has to publicly announce who their voting for in democratic countries, and that there's no mechanism to check that. People can be grouped, ostracized, persecuted, canceled, or worse.

I'mma be honest, this might be the worst part of lemmy. NSFW, gray area topics, sports discussion, all that becomes completely radioactive.
