Agreed... depending on Google to implement or fix very specific features is just shouting into the void. Use a trusted 3rd party app like Bitwarden, as you mentioned

I wonder whether this eventually is going to result in some sort of spinoff project, otherwise why not a) officially graduate her with full sendoff like they did with Coco, or b) announce an indefinite hiatus, which has precendent in other vtuber orgs. It seems like she's not joining Hololive Staff, so this whole "affiliate" thing seems like she's getting some sort of role change that would land her outside of the current hololive management structure...interesting stuff

Nope, pretty normal. You'll find that you'll need frontends and proxies for tons of things. For example Instagram hasn't ever worked for me with a VPN. I no longer have an account anyway,, but for the times someone sends me a link I've had to find sites that let you view the content without actually visiting Instagram. Same with reddit, reddit frontends are very good these days (I'd recommend any Redlib instance). Also, sometimes a specific VPN server is IP blocked and you can just connect to a different server to view a web site that blocked you initially. It is a fair amount of work, but honestly its helped me slow down my consumption of random bullshit anyway haha. I use ProtonVPN and pay for premium.

The Republican party is also OK with this. Protests continue but are utterly ignored. What can we do except vote for the party where there is at least some hope of them caving to public pressure? Republicans will never cave, and Trump is worse for America on all other fronts. The only practical choice is to choose Harris, and pressure her admin harder than ever after the election. https://theintercept.com/2024/09/11/harris-trump-debate-gaza-israel-saudi/

NVIDIA definitely has stability issues, newest drivers still kernel panic on resume from suspend. Only thing more you can do is try to capture debug logs with nvidia-bug-report.sh (I go in during a crash via SSH, usually the system is still responsive for a little while after), and post it to the NVIDIA Linux forums. They do actually seem to use the feedback there, NVIDIA reps respond from time to time and say they've submitted bug reports from the feedback. Otherwise, after that yeah you just do what you have to do for a usable system and wait...

So... does THIS mean that this doesn't support explicit sync, right as explicit sync is about to be stable and supported in the NVIDIA 560/565 drivers? As far as I know there are currently other ways to do screen capture outside of this protocol on Wayland so its not like there are no interim solutions, why release this when it is essentially still incomplete?

I wonder how this calculus changes with the dawn of AI built into the OS... will a Linux system that avoids all that nonsense end up being more energy efficient?

Graphene here as well! I gave them that feedback in the support email chain... no reason to allow this setting combo without a warning. Also not clear why split tunnel doesn't remedy this, I would have thought apps excluded via split tunnel would be exempt from the VPN while it is connected and Kill switch is active (although obviously it makes sense that nothing is excluded when kill switch activates on vpn disconnect)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Right, I don't want to either... But apparently split tunnel doesn't work as I expected, since Kill Switch still affects apps that are excluded in split tunnel

Interesting! I have heard of gluetun but never tried it. What about the mobile scenario? In this case I was using Jellyfin client on Android to access the server on my PC

Wanted to share something I found out about today when I was troubleshooting Jellyfin, hopefully it will help people out. Jellyfin wouldn't connect when I had LAN Connections enabled on ProtonVPN, so I contacted support. They let me know that having Kill Switch enabled with LAN connection is incompatible:

"...the Killswitch and Allow LAN connections features are mutually exclusive due to their functionality differences, you will be unable to utilize both of them at the same time.

Unfortunately, due to compatibility issues within these features and some users experiencing issues when utilizing both of them, our team decided to make them mutually exclusive, therefore, at this moment you will not be able to utilize the Killswitch feature and have access to your LAN, therefore, if you wish to have access to your LAN, we suggest you keep the Killswitch feature disabled."

Not sure I understand how the two settings are related, but good to know! Another note is that Split Tunneling had no effect on this, so clearly Kill Switch also effects apps that are excluded in split tunneling also.

No more XWayland bugginess! Just add --enable-features=UseOzonePlatform --ozone-platform=wayland to the appimage launch command and it works great!
