Yes. If your country is authoritarian use cryptocurrency such as Monero. Even Bitcoin can be much better.

The bank would know the amount, the merchant and other details even if it's a merchant from abroad. The bank might have a duty to report certain transactions or could be forced to give out a record. Other international payment process or foreign banks will generally not refuse a request if it comes from a country government you are a citizen of.

You can use crypto to buy gift cards to shop at regular retailers. This is your safest bet if you're concerned about a state surveillance of your transactions.

I would say "a lot". Granted I don't have too many irl friends, but I think it does matter to me that I can be myself among trusted friends and I feel it helps if they're furries as well.

Not that instance, but Lemmy is missing a lot of moderation and federation tools. Right now you only have sledgehammers to deal with tiny nails, in regards to tooling.

**Edit: migration completed. Apologies for the reboots. **

Everything is working smoothly except for the network configuration. I wanted to make some changes but I didn't manage to get this new network configuration to work. For now I've left it with the old configuration and with some time I'll fiddle around with subnet masks and static routes in order to improve VM isolation. Since Yiffit is currently the only VM on the server (packmates.org is next), it doesn't matter that much right now.

OLD POST BELOW

I'm preparing a migration to the new server that I've set up. The change should be transparent for you as users for now except for the small downtime of about 1h that could happen between today and tomorrow (I'm sorry for not being able to be more exact since it depends on some variables such as me doing testing to ensure that everything will work correctly).

After the migration, I'll share more details and also explain the new setup and which benefits we can expect from the new server in the future.

When this instance was created, I put in place a ban on certain content that could get us in trouble in regards to federating with other instances since we weren't yet too well known.

Now that two months have passed I hope we have established ourselves as an instance with good moderation and have lifted the ban for most content.

There are currently two content categories that are still banned:

Underage characters & characters that very evidently look underage to anyone who doesn't know the character's lore (ie. 1000 year old spirit trapped in the body of a minor). This ban is permanent.
Content featuring gore, mutilation, death and non-trivial amounts of blood. This ban is indefinite but can be overturned once lemmy has better moderation tools and I find a way to ensure that by allowing this content we are not inadvertently allowing the glorification of problematic behavior or allow networking of malicious sadism.
