Apparently I'm the only one that likes being titillated by movies. I don't get the "it adds nothing to the plot" complaint. Tons of movies have action scenes and gratuitous violence that add nothing to the plot, yet i don't see complaints about that. 90% of John Wick is gratuitous violence that added nothing to the plot, but I still love it.

I think this says more about American prudishness and people's unhealthy attitudes towards sex than anything.

Bunch of unnecessary death? Cool and fun! An unnecessary titty? Awkward and gratuitous.

Fuck all of you. I want more nudity and sex in my movies and the comparative lack of it compared to the 80s and 90s feels like we're going out of our way to exclude a huge part of life from art because it makes the prudes out there uncomfortable. But those same people are happy to watch nameless dudes get creatively and graphically killed for half a movie's run time.

I want more gratuitous sex and less gratuitous moral pandering

With Home Assistant and locally controlled devices there's no issues whatsoever. Completely locally controlled and solid as a rock ime.

Always bugged the shit out of me that he actually says "mother freaking" in that scene

Completely ruined my suspension of disbelief and I still cringe when remembering it.

I'm not convinced they're at all the same. Consciousness may go dormant during sleep, and you may not remember it, but it's still a continuous, uninterrupted, stream of electricity.

This kind of teleportation would completely snuff out that fire and replace it with an identical one at another location. It's not the same as sleep.

No difference for the rest of the universe, but the difference between life and death to my current stream of consciousness.

Imagine if the teleporter malfunctioned and created the duplicate on the other end but failed to disentigeate you. A worker notices you're still in the machine and says, "oops sorry, had a malfunction on this end. Give us a minute to fix the issue and we'll destroy you. No worries though, 'you' made it out the other end."

Wouldn't you do everything in your power to get out of that machine before they could fix it and kill you?

The fact that a clone would be seamlessly picking up my stream of consciousness after I die would be little consolation to me.

Sleep may be similar from a philosophical or external point of view. But I'm not sold that lack consciousness during sleep is in the same league as completely destroying, and then, rebuilding it.

"As far as you are concerned"

Correction: "as far as anyone else is concerned."

Consciousness IS continuity. If you are disentigrated and a perfect clone pops up somewhere to replace you... you died. Your current stream of consciousness ended and a perfect copy replaced you.

As far as all external observers are concerned it's still you. But from your own perspective? Well you won't have one anymore, you'll be dead.

Yes we do. Carbon tax.

Agreed, but I have a feeling I'll be using Jellyfin in a few years.

As far as I know Matrix is the best FOSS alternative to Discord right now. Maybe try using the coturn addon for voice instead of Jitsi. I've been able to share audio snippets just fine this way.

No shit it's not private. This is the digital equivalent of shouting on a soapbox in public and then getting pissed if someone records or remembers it.
