“Aides said he talked about Ivanka Trump’s breasts, her backside, and what it might be like to have sex with her, remarks that once led John Kelly to remind the president that Ivanka was his daughter,” Taylor [Miles Taylor, a DHS chief of staff under Trump] wrote, recalling an alleged exchange with Kelly, who served as Trump’s chief of staff between 2017 and 2019."

Just real normal stuff to say about your daughter. /s 🤮

Yeah, as a tax payer I hate to see my tax dollars go to ever increasing security for this man looking to take away our freedoms and crush minorities and vulnerable people. He spews outright lies that are hurting people all over the country and we are supposed to just pay to keep his hate speech toxic verbal diarrhea mouth safe so he can possibly be elevated to a position to amplify his harm to the country and it's citizens.

It's fucking insane and infuriating.

For commercial services like Twitter or Reddit the bots make sense because it lets the platforms have inflated "user" numbers while also more random nonsense to sell ads against.

But for the fediverse, the goals would be, post random stuff into the void and profit?? Like I guess you could long game some users into a product that they only research on the fediverse, but seems more cost effective for the botnets to attack the commercial networks first.

Growing from a broad research effort at U.S. universities and national laboratories, Kairos Power was founded to accelerate the development of an innovative nuclear technology ...

Kairos Power is focused on reducing technical risk through a novel approach to test iteration often lacking in the nuclear space. Our schedule is driven by the goal of a U.S. demonstration plant before 2030 and a rapid deployment thereafter. The challenge is great, but so too is the opportunity.

So basically academics finding people to fund a large scale lab experiment, they want to get working by 2030. It sounds like they sold Google on an idea (for funding) and now have to move their idea from the lab to the real world. It does sound safer than water cooled plants of old at least.

Well someone is already deciding based on the ability to get a security clearance. And if being "Don citizen" and not able to get a security clearance at all, how should that person be allowed an office that needs a Top Secret clearance level?

Also it shouldn't be up to Trump, or anyone he appoints (or that any president appoints).

Well I would assume some of that comes from the lower volume of building the homes, with less people in construction in the area possessing the skills/materials to do so. Perhaps if the government put money towards volume buying materials and securing contractors able to build them, the price could come down to "market" values. I would think insurance companies would also see it as a win not having to payout as much for those that can actually be insured (and maybe makes it so more people can actually be covered making the graph go up).

I could be way off and the pricing of those homes are just unable to come down to an acceptable $ value, but government/insurance money would be put to better use looking to build more future climate safe homes as close as possible to the above model instead of today's standard.

I think because Elon can let him run whatever he wants on Twitter unchecked (disinformation or whatever), and because Elon is all in on grifting crypto bros that Trump is hoping to pull in for their votes before they notice the con.

All compromised Dems? Sounds like a good idea. And I assume he would need to do it by proxy since he currently has only citizen powers.

Are the Swastika flags black because they are "dark MAGA" like Elon? /s

And because the religious sect believes they need the Jews to bring Armageddon/the rapture.

I think housing like this might be a smarter move than trying to move millions of people (or leaving them homeless).

[–] [email protected] 0 points 4 days ago

OK, you're the one that sounded like you wanted to move everyone. And I don't think when natural disasters continue to get worse that it's going to be just hurricanes causing mass destruction. We are eventually going to have the rise of sea levels coming into play, which will of course increase the destruction those hurricanes can create, but also the more water a hurricane like Milton spawning larger tornadoes has to move around inland.

Between 2010 and 2020, tornadoes have cost an average of $2.5 million per storm. The most expensive tornado of all time occurred on May 22, 2011 in Joplin, Missouri, costing $2.8 billion dollars in insurance claims and a total cost of damages around $3.18 billion.

Source: The Effect of Tornadoes on Insurance

What about that too? If people want to continue to build on the path of hurricanes, let them. Just stop using taxpayer money to bail them out.

Your stance that its OK for taxpayers to pay $2.5 million per tornado, but hurricane survivors should be on their own sounds kinda hypocritical.

Upgraded the instance to 0.19.5 and all seems well. As usual, let me know if you see otherwise.

Upgrading the site to Lemmy 0.19.4 so expect roughly an hour of downtime. I'll update this post right before I take the site down, and again once the site is back up.

Edit #1: OK, site will be going down now 11:31am EST. Edit #2: Site is back up - upgrade complete @ 10:46 pm EST.

A lot of things broke I didn't expect, so please let me know if you find something not work as you believe it should be and I'll see what I can do about fix it (hopefully quicker). Again, sorry about the downtime!

The server has now been updated to Lemmy 0.19.3 release. Let me know if you see anything that seems broken, and enjoy!

I have updated the site to Lemmy 0.19.2 so let me know if you notice anything ... wonky. =)

So this is a crazy idea I have had for a while now, and finally wrote down so I would remember it (at the correct time - aka not bedtime OR when getting dressed). I want to take some songs that I find the lyrics have had a large impact on me, and just kind of break them down and share my feelings on them and see if anyone agrees or has a different take, or someone just hears something for the 1st time which is also amazing. =)

Typical Situation by Dave Matthews Band

Ten fingers we have each Nine planets around the sun repeat Eight ball is the last if you triumphant be Seven oceans pummel the shores of the sea

So this verse starts out doing this fun thing of pointing on the math in everyday things (your fingers, etc.). I find this really fun as if there is one thing I do enjoy, it's patterns/numbers.

It's a typical situation In these typical times Too many choices

So this verse is all about how the world has given us all these choices, and how they can be overwhelming. How do you choose just one!! This really resonates with me, as I'm either suffering from choice paralysis, or I'm doing a thousand things at once. I feel like technology has been both a help, and made things way more complex and anxiety inducing in this respect. There was no movies on demand to watch all day/night, no social media to doom scroll instead of doing whatever you should be doing. Just the amount of choices for so many things these days is staggering to even try and wrap your head around.

Everybody's happy Everybody's free We'll keep the big door open And everyone'll come around Why are you different Why are you that way If you don't step in line We'll lock you away

Dave is now stating how society sees everyone as needing to conform, and "get in line" with social norms, which of course will allow these individuals to be happy and "free". For those of us that do not conform to social norms, or do not understand the norms, or even the "rules" themselves, well society will just push you away (ignore you and your needs). I think this verse hits like a Mack truck! I know I constantly feel like I'm just on the very rim of being locked away because I either don't get what is going on, or I just don't understand why it's necessary to "do the stupid holiday when it just makes everyone super stressed out and fight all day". =)

Six senses keeping Five around a sense of self Four seasons turn on and turn off I can see three corners from this corner Two is a perfect number But one Everybody's happy Everybody's free We'll keep the big door open And everyone'll come around Why are you different Why are you that way If you don't step in line We'll lock you away

In this verse Dave is again back to the math in everything around us, and all the fun places it can be found. He then hits on this notion that again hits home for me in the lines "two is the perfect number, But one, Everybody's happy, Everybody's free". I interpret this as saying, that having someone that you can love is like the greatest thing in the world, but being alone, that makes everyone happy to be free of societies wants and needs. You can just do your special interest and everything is wonderful. But, the problem is like the song coming back to the theme of conforming with society, we must all interact with society to some degree no matter what.

It's a typical situation In these typical times We can't do a thing about it

The last line here really sums it all up as, the world is full of endless situations and choices and it's going to be VERY overwhelming sometimes, BUT there is nothing we can really do about it. I do think we can try and help each other, and be kind to others, and most importantly to ourselves.

The Holidays (badatbeing.social)

I just wanted to wish anyone like myself, that struggles with the sheer amount of stimulation and hustle bustle of this time of year, the best of luck. You got this! I know it's not easy, but we will make it out the other side and hopefully not be to mentally drained (fingers crossed).

This is just a heads up that I'm readying the server for the new 0.19.1 update so there will be a little downtime for the site once it begins. I'm hopeful that I can do it without buggering the whole thing up and needing to do any restores. =)

See you on the other side!

This night 2 of Goose @ Goosemas X on the 9th.

This is a from night 2 of Goosemas X featuring Bruce Hornsby. =)

This is night 1 of the band Goose doing a set of special holiday concerts that are just amazing.

As the title states, the instance is now running Lemmy 0.19.0 release. Overall I think it's running good, and some good quality of life features added.

You can read more about it here.

I just update the instance to the newest lemmy-ui:0.19.0-beta.1 and lemmy:0.19.0-rc.1 builds, and as far as I can tell nothing blew up. =)

Oh and the site should work with logins now as well that was broken by an in between build that changed the database but not the front end to talk to it.
