Eight (10) Grain Loaf

Today's loaf. ~350g water ~45g starter (I didn't feed it enough Thursday lol) ~350g Strong Multigrain (Matthews Cotswold) Flour ~100g Very Strong White (Allinson's) Flour ~50g Very Strong Wholemeal (Allinson's) Flour ~10g salt -added in that order and mixed all at once.
I don't autolyse without starter cause I can't be arsed with the extra steps and the few times I've done it I didn't find any difference.
This was the first time I used the multigrain flour (normally I'd use all white, recently with the 50g wholemeal) - dough was much wetter/stickier than usual, so I didn't get as many stretch and folds in as I normally do.
Mixed approx. 9pm, as many stretch and folds as I could get in considering tackiness of dough before midnight.
Preshaped, rested for about 30 minutes, shaped and baked straight away at 240°C fan oven in a Dutch oven (steel pot with lid) for 30 minutes, uncovered at 220°C for 20 minutes.
I've found pre-shaping makes a humongous difference to the shape of the boule - normally my loves would sink out to the sides a bit.
This is the best demonstration I've seen of how 'AI' (LLMs) have no fucking clue what they're doing, and hence why all the 'AI will replace X job' is just absolute bullshit.

Everytime I read an article like this, my immediate reaction is posting a comment expressing my disgust with the Israeli State's actions and everytime I hesitate because I don't want to suffer the inevitable wave of people defending the Israeli State's actions as somehow justifiable because Hamas did something vile first.
It's a continuing cycle of violence and the Israeli State holds a humongous power advantage. They don't use that power disparity to deescalate and integrate the Palestinian people to prevent Hamas from having support. Instead they do shit like this where they drive Palestinians straight into Hamas' hands, because the Palestinian people are given no other option to turn to.

Eh, in all fairness the meat & dairy industry is one thing that we as consumers really do need to take a bulk of responsibility for. I say that as a devout meat eater.
BUT, governments could go a long way by not subsidising dairy and meat and instead subsidising protein alternatives. It's fucking nuts to me that it costs more for me to buy plant protein.
(Before the die hard vegans come at me saying you don't need to eat pseudo (plant) proteins to eat less meat, please remember you're trying to convert people that are familiar and enjoy one diet to another. You're not going to encourage anyone by advocating a cold-turkey or 0% meat approach. I hate that I have to put this disclaimer here, but I'm fed up with arguing with puritanical vegans that overshadow pragmatism.)

Rewilding Project: Step 1 - dig a pond

Needed some positivity in life, so just upped and decided to rewild our front garden.
My wife and I have talked about making the front garden a wildflower meadow (which will be step 3 or 4), but my wife likes frogs so I thought I'd gamble on the chance that a little pond might attract some - as well as being a boon for wildlife in general.
We used the kids' old paddling pool, as you can see, and I'm following guidance found on various websites (e.g. rewildingbritain.org.uk, RSPB, etcetera).
Step 2 will be buying some native pond plants once we've got some rainwater in.
Once we've got the meadow going, I'm planning on seeing if I can recruit any neighbours. (First target is next door who has never once used their garden and only goes out to strim it down. I'm hoping I can tempt them with an offer of turning it into a meadow for free, seeing as they paid for our shared fence.)

I remodelled my baby's mobile for exactly this reason. Seemed stupid to have the animals face up when baby is underneath, so I turned them round and made them detachable so baby could pull them off and play with them too.
