Most instances are run on a rented vps. But no vps is going to take well to a constant ddos
This is the way.
Don't join big instances. There should be no main instance. Join small instances. Spread the load
It's great but wouldn't that be CP/M?
Tl;dr
Jokes on you, I'm in antidepressants!
Yes and usually sane developers allow you to specify external mysql instances.
Delving into the politics many view docker as a standalone system that shouldn't need external items so they leave their db internal. Which goes against having configurations external.
But then you have external databases that you need to know enough to setup ahead of time to allow the docker to use and now I gave myself a headache
Same here.
Bonus is I can root it and replace the firmware if I want to without blowing an eFuse and it useless work work or pay if I flash it back
It's not anywhere near the point I need to moderate it. That may change.
I've been looking at other instances and put in some defederation that obviously needed to happen.
But because it's just me and a few friends thus far I don't need to police much beyond making sure spam bots don't get in
DOOM
So many mods
So many difficulties
Beyond that I'd say Half-Life because that's also a good classic.
Hey you might get the first steam deck I had RMAd
Worse then that.
Theyre more then three times the size of the next lemmy instance which creates an attack surface.
People are looking for an easy access server for lemmy, they search for it and because of SEO the most popular servers are the ones they see.
