Wait, the ~14,000 dead children complied with American restrictions? The damaging or destruction of over 80% of all structures in Gaza was within restrictions? Interesting. It's honestly going to be tough for the victims of genocide to tell the difference. It actually may benefit Israel's victims since America is likely to massively lose influence in the world with the clown car pulling into Washington. Many nations who likely want to push back against the genocide are under huge American pressure to stay silent and complicit, hopefully as America loses influence that could change.

Not saying that will occur, just an opinion.

Having elected a fascist autocrat, who already prepared the way by having the supreme court declare him above the law. Living in the country with the most militarized police, a nation with a massive capability to spy on it's own citizens, citizens who have little critical thinking capability to begin with. A society where social media creates the reality those poorly educated citizens live in, and social media is owned by oligarchs who benefit from a system where pleasing one narcissistic leader gives them power over regulators and increases their wealth more rapidly. I think people are a little optimistic to believe we can't call the next election today.

You have to frame everything in terms that apply to trump. His goal is to be in a room with Putin, being praised for dealing with the Ukraine problem. He wants to be acknowledged by another dictator and strong man, that's it. He'll definitely pressure both Ukraine and their European supporters to accept Russian conquest of Ukrainian territory so he can get a ceasefire. It's not because he hates Ukraine, he probably doesn't care about them at all, it's just the pursuit of affirmation for himself. It's up to Europe, and hopefully RoK, to push forward and give democracy a win to raise everyone's morale.

They don't have to make deals with Putin, he can't handle the EU, and America will only help him economically. The EU is the last democratic super block, they need to stand up for those of us that still want democracy to survive. I'm Canadian, we're fucked. Japan just signed a comprehensive security pact with the EU. Obviously they have fascist leaders inside the house as well, but really, NATO is dead, we need them to step up. Here's hoping, with little conviction.

The issue is, it is already apocalyptic. It's genocide, the extermination of a population. It's going to be worse for Americans (and the world in general) if Trump is elected, but what if that world watched your family and friends die horribly, or helped kill them? As a Canadian I sure hope people can choke down the bile and keep fascism out of the white house, but we shouldn't act like there aren't groups of people who might think we all deserve whatever we get, regardless of it affecting them as well.

An important detail is that advanced western weapons are restricted to operations near our within the recognized borders if Ukraine. The arsenals, refineries, factories, and other strategic targets inside actual Russian territory have been hit with Ukrainian weapons. Most are relatively low payload drones, with some targets being serviced by Neptune land attack variants, which is definitely more advanced than anything in the Iranian arsenal for example. But I think the point stands that relatively cheap and simple systems have provided outsized results in the Ukrainian conflict.

The reason there are warning signs for Israel is because of the sheer economy of drone bombing. When Iran launched over a hundred drones, and only three hit, the media had a chuckle. I'm sure the IDF and the American planners supporting them looked very nervously at the estimated 2.4 billion USD worth of ordinance deployed during the defence. Why do you think Ukraine and Russia are building cheap drones to kill other cheap drones. It'll be interesting to watch.

It will be interesting to see if Israel has a similar experience to Russia. They attacked with a massive advantage and were able to carry out operations with the home front secure, for awhile. Now Ukraine has developed a robust strategic strike capability that is causing serious military and economic damage. Israel may face a similar situation, even with the US willing to participate directly on their behalf.

In addition to the comments already posted, they had strategic reasons to withhold support as well. While Russia doesn't pose a serious military or economic threat to RoK directly they could cause real problems. Part of the defensive advantage they have held against the North is a decade or three of technology lead. While joking about the actual effectiveness of Russian hardware is fun, large scale tech transfer to North Korea would change the strategic balance on the peninsula, RoK has pretty clearly sought to avoid that by limiting aid to Ukraine to non lethal items.

The more Russia barters with the North though, the less likely RoK will see it that the transfer isn't taking place anyways. Russia is gambling for short term help and risking a major new source of munitions and hardware for their adversaries.

Opinion polls throughout the current genocide have seen Israeli public opinion around 80% in support of the campaign. I think it's obvious that not all Israelis and certainly not all Jewish people support genocide, the views expressed in the video are not uncommon and carry no negative social connotations in Israel though. That is the environment required for genocide.

Structures are designed to resist vertical loading, it's why the only buildings standing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki following the bombings were directly under the detonation point. They withstood the shockwave when loaded vertically, other buildings experienced side loading and collapsed. The comment about delayed fusing is right, but it's actually tough with these comniblock buildings, there's probably 30-40cm of reinforced concrete between each floor. Brick shit houses.

I visited Budapest this fall, there are a lot of Hungarians that don't support this government. That said, no matter how much it sucks for those people, it's time to start looking at removing Hungary from the EU. NATO has no removal framework since that is counter to the nature of defensive treaties, but having hostile nations within the alliance threatens it's integrity. Perhaps new structure will be needed to allow the quarantine of compromised members. At this point I would be very concerned if Hungary has full security access to NATO intelligence and planning, not to mention equipment.

I have recently been having an issue where filters are applied, not by me, while I'm browsing in Connect. Entire communities are showing no posts with the message, "Empty because all posts are being filtered". There are no filters turned on in the settings that I can see. Many comments are also hidden due to filters, including my own. I have checked in using the browser interface and everything is normal there.

Is there a setting I am missing, or do I have another issue with the app?

Edit: Issue solved, apparently I had blocked lemmy.world though I'm not sure how.

I am receiving this error when I attempt to install via the manager, but I am able to install via Terminal. That said I am getting an option to install for either System or User, which I haven't previously seen. I'm sure this is probably something pretty basic, but I'm fairly Linux illiterate... beyond knowing I can mess things up by fiddling without knowing what I'm doing.

I am on Nobara 37, Gnome 43.2, Wayland. I'd love a hand with this, thanks!

Edit: Thanks for the detailed answers! Issue resolved.
