Unfortunately lemmy is not like other fediverse platforms that allow hiding domains, so if you decide to peek at the /instances page to view what has been blocked do not interact or visit the instances we have defederated from as more than quite a few are known to host genuine illegal content. You have been warned.
I took a glance at the list, and the amount of blocked instances that straight-up mention pedo shit in their URL makes me sick.
To be honest this is going to be a growing issue. Lemmy World already had to disable image hosting and shut down the LemmyShitpost community because spammers from other instances were straight-up overloading the community with tonnes of CP.
I think it would be wise to approach federation from a whitelist rather than a blacklist perspective. Require trusted communities to opt in to be federated with you.
I don't get the obsession with wanting as many communities as possible federated with LemmyNSFW. Nobody's going to use their account from another instance to post here...
Another issue is aged up variants of characters where their canonical age is way below 18 but the art depicts them as above it.
Here's a better way of thinking about it. Isn't it alarming that the moment Game Freak release artwork of a new female playable character, every rule-34 artist is rushing to draw aged-up lewd art of them? All but one main series Pokémon game has you playing a ten-year-old, with Black/White being the only exception where Hilbert and Hilda are 15...
And another thing I should definitely raise to the admins, current rules of "no aged-up characters" are very inconsistently enforced, if not wholly unenforced on this instance.
One of my biggest gripes with Reddit as a platform is the overabundance of amateur models spamming every single subreddit with the exact same posts to shill their OnlyFans and Fansly profiles, even to the point of posting their content in irrelevant subreddits without consequence. It's at the point where the admins have all but abandoned the 10% rule for self-promotion.
Will you be implementing a policy to ban self-promotion for profit (and keep communities like Gonewild purely for exhibitionists), or at least encourage professional content creators to actually interact with the community and not astroturf LemmyNSFW with adverts for their OF like they've done with Reddit?
The following content however will not be welcome on our instance, no matter if mod tools improve.
noncon, depictions of underage content drawn or otherwise (Loli/Shota/Cub/Etc), deepfakes & revenge porn (elaboration will be expanded in upcoming content policy updates.), snuff, beastiality
Good call.
One of my biggest grievances with Mastodon is that the discoverability of posts outside of your local instance is complete ass. If I search by All, my feed ends up dominated with hentai reposting bots that regurgitate content from various subreddits and imageboards. Some of these posts have 'loli' hashtags, which is not only morally repugnant but also outright illegal and punished with the same level of severity as CSAM in some jurisdictions, such as the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
This is one of several reasons why I stopped using Mastodon after a few days.
If we want Lemmy to become an alternative to Reddit, we need to put a moratorium on evil lest the platform ends up as another Voat, Poal, Gab, Parler, etc. That includes purging underage content.
