This kind of policy is not about influencing people who are already addicted, it is about trying to prevent anyone new from getting addicted and eventually putting the entire thing in the rear view.
I don't follow hockey much the last 15-20 years or so - but the only people I heard about skipping out on pride stuff were fundamentalist Christian ~~Americans~~ (fml, the Staal's are Canadian)! Not to say others didn't do it - just it didn't make big enough waves to hit the 'non-sports news' I watch.
