The price isn't great.

The mother games are the only repros I've purchased, it's a crime that Nintendo didn't localize those for NA or EUR!

So it's just a cheap repro from eBay with an English patch. I have a flash cart too, which is probably the better way to go.

Just dumped out my small bin of GBA games.

I think the ability to play carts is part of why this is over $100, that takes a lot more hardware than just an emulation box does.

Took all my games out of their protective cases and dumped them out on the table. Sometimes it's just satisfying to rummage through a bunch of carts, hold them in your hands, and admire the label art. Does anyone else periodically do this with their physical games?

The empty cases (and bins that I keep my games in):

Thank goodness for modern electronics!

With a LED backlight, the battery life of this almost triples! And rechargeable batteries are way better than what they were in the 90s.

I didn't have any Sega System as a kid, so all the Sega franchises have been brand new to me the last few years - there's some really great stuff in there!

Years ago I inherited my wife's family's Game Gear. After a recap, and replacing the backlight, I started tracking down games to play on it. It's been great exploring a whole library of games that I skipped out on as a kid! (I was a Nintendo kid) Now I have a nice little library of carts to play on this beast of a 90's handheld.

I've been loving it, feels good to be using it again. Lemmy isn't as active as I would love it to be (especially in the topics I'm interested in), but being able to scroll around using Sync has really motivated me to be active here. I hope that happens with more people.

I really wish I could submit posts using the app, and there are a couple of the features that feel like should be basic functions that require a subscription to use. Happy to support the developer, but I don't like subscription models and not sure if there's enough value here for me (yet) to justify a one-time $99 payment.

I'd also love it if the "no more posts loaded. Retry?" toast message would time out and fade away. It ends up blocking some of the info for the last post it loaded at the bottom of the screen, and it just doesn't leave!

Good eye lol! Yes it is, and 1 HyperBoy cart!

I was helping the guy that designed and produced them at RetroOnyx, I did a lot of beta-testing. I also did quite a bit of digital artwork to contribute to the community and he told me to just keep the carts. I bought one of them, the rest came from him for testing/development.

It's nice to be able to flash several of my favorite unreleased commercial games and homebrew onto different carts and be able to just swap them out instead of constantly reflashing 🤷🏻.

They're unfortunately getting to be pretty pricey things to track down nowadays. Emulation is a thing, but this is one of those quirky systems where it's almost impossible to really replicate the original experience. I've heard there's a really good emulation solution for the Oculus Go though, if you have access to one of those!

(And "red" is a big part of the experience lol)

Mario Kart 8 with my kids but I'll probably break out the Game Gear when everyone is finally in bed!
