I would never recommend putting yourself at risk, but ghosting the person after lying that you'd like to see them again is just a dick move.

Sync going away -- and now coming here, yay! If they're giving their users the finger, and there's a reasonable alternative, why would I stay? I was mainly there for the communities related to my interests (their size, not their mere existence), and those are present here and elsewhere in a growing capacity.

I did like AskReddit, though, and I'm not sure if Lemmy will ever get anything like that...

Snorlax. He's just so relatable.

Oh man, this is relatable.

If I'm visiting my parents, my mom insists on "visiting" -- that is, either sitting and talking endlessly, playing boardgames, watching a movie together, or going out to do something. She has complained about us being unsociable for sitting and reading for an hour or two after spending the whole day doing things she wants.

My in-laws, on the other hand... don't. There is absolutely no pressure to do anything. They are just happy to have us there, regardless of what we choose to do (or not do). Speaking from 13 years of experience with them: it's awesome.

You can't have a Lemon party without old Dick!

  • Young Frankenstein

  • The Princess Bride

  • Blazing Saddles

  • The Matrix

  • The Shawshank Redemption

It's a toss-up on a couple of those. The Blues Brothers could easily make the list, as could Pulp Fiction, Terminator 2, Alien, Interstellar, and I'm sure there are many others. I will abandon what I'm doing to watch any one of these, if they come on, probably 90% of the time.

Climbing onto the counter (at 2 or 3 years old) to get a Flintstone's vitamin, because I liked the way they taste. Plot twist: what I actually ate was one of our dog's epilepsy pills.

Yeah, that made me chuckle. Reddit is really trying to make sure I move on completely.

Semper fidelis tyrannosaurus.

There may be some impact, come July, when the third party apps stop working. However, I have to imagine that the vast majority of mobile users use the official app. Quality may take a hit, with the loss of some mods and mod tools, but Reddit will be just fine. Sadly, Reddit rates too highly on content, users, and resultant utility (for many communities) for most users to completely abandon it.
