And you can buy them today for less than I expected.

Oh, access to everything will happen.
The owners will just charge us for every viewing of every episode.
Yep.
I rip them, then store the discs in a cool, dark, dry place.
Everything I rip is backed up. It's pretty clear what's happening.
And in 20 years they'll start "selling" everything by the episode online.
Laser is your long term answer. Brother seems to be the brand today.
Lol, so true!
Also, don't buy inkjet.
My first inkjet was an HP bubblejet, about 1994. My last was some garbage about 2000. Since then I've refused to own one.
My 1997 laserjet (that I bought used in 2008) just died. I bougt a color laser on Craigslist for $50. And my current BW laser is a 2014 HP, that just got it's second cartridge.
You can't give me an inkjet.
"mistake"
I call BS. The reviews I've gone through for trivial stuff would've exposed this.
This was intentional.
Christ, the hell I would've gotten, in the 90's, if I'd done something like this.
Research - you really need to verify why things are different, what those "bits" are. May be nothing, but you want to know.
I'm surprised to hear a failing trans kills a TC - those are simple, robust devices. Only time I've seen one damaged is in racing where they drive a lot of torque through one, very abruptly, during launch (drag racing). I don't think an SVX has the torque to bend vanes in a TC. Wonder if there's something else in these (maybe the lockup mechanism gets damaged?).
I've even overheated one, causing the case to change colors, and it worked fine later.
As for what fits (or doesn't), I'd want to rely on good research and docs, so I know how and why things fit together. It may be more than just "will it fit".
Oh, my.
