Of course there's an xkcd about it. I've found that I land on the left side of this spectrum with all of my friends - but also none of us text each other to begin with anyways.

Just have to get people to call Washington, D.C. just "DC". My high school went to a band festival in Indianapolis and when people asked where we were from (especially the east side schools) we'd have to clarify that we're from the state of Washington and not DC.
There's also the added bonus that WA is also Western Australia, so I always have to double-check whenever it's mention in headlines
