Nope. Burn it down and move on, reddit is a dead platform.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.
I'd been there one way or another since 2005.
Sometime in 2024 was asked to explain a Bible passage -> did so -> site wide ban for anti-semitism. Passage in question was Ezekiel criticising the behaviour of Jews in the 6th century BC
Reddit is a disaster. Unless you're generating bland, safe, family friendly slop that'll rake in ad impressions they don't want to know.
Just let it die and move on
If you have a site wide ban, that most likely means you have IP ban. Admin doesn't give a shit because you being banned isn't impacting their bottom dollar. Odds are that even if are able to speak to an admin they're just gonna tell you no
I can use my VPN and still sign into my banned account so I would think that it's both the kill cookies in my browser along with simply that my account is coded as banned regardless of how I try to access it. I agree with you that they don't care about banned accounts, but there must be some instances when perm banned accounts are reinstated.
With a VPN, it's not a static IP, and you can still log in to banned accounts regardless. You can surf and lurk, but can't contribute.
correct. And I guess the point is that it means nothing regarding how you log in because your account is simply set at banned.
Correct
My 6 years old account was banned recently too, for a comment that was considered a hate speech, however i dont even remember what exactly i wrote, as the comment was deleted by Reddit. I just know that I was very careful in my writings, so it came as a huge surprise. I guess our only chance is to wait for some future policy change or X like event where many accounts were given a second chance and the ban policy was loosen after Elon Musk bought twitter.
Even if you're careful when writing your comment, it makes no difference if the admin reading your comment is not careful or has poor reading comprehension.
This is what happens when you have no rights and another person is given power over you. Even if they think they're not being abusive, any small misunderstanding always ends in you being abused.
I am really sad because I love Reddit and think it's a great and easy to use platform. The only issue in my opinion is the lack of free speech which produces the echo chamber effect. Furthermore banning you for live is a bit too harsh I think even when you really broke the rules. The current ban system does not count that people can change factor and provide second chances after an year or two..
Rather than "echo chamber" I prefer the phrase "hive mind". If you go to r/conservative or r/politics you should be smart enough to know that you are not going to have any meaningful discussion. The people of those groups are in a hive mind. I'm not saying that they are bad people, just that they want to be surrounded by people that only think as they do. Most social media platforms lean heavily to the right or left. And that's fine. But just admit it and don't jerk me off telling me that you are a free speech neutral platform.
Unfortunately this is the current situation with many of the subs there. I really hope things will change in the future..
Interesting speculation regarding what happened at X and now Meta. Platforms that allow free speech. Not hate speech but multiple viewpoints. I never see Lemmy banning people for simply expressing a minority opinion but reddit continues to do it. If they ever change they will surely be at the end of the line of change.
The issue is when comments that contradict someone's opinion are also considered a hate speech. I believe that anyone should have the freedom to express his opinion without the risk of getting banned.
Everyone understands hate speech. "All Whites are bad" and other nonsense like that when you condemn a whole group of people. In my opinion the phrase "hate speech" has a new meaning and used when someone cannot have a civil debate explaining their position and how it differs from your opinion. I like reading all opinions. But I know if someone screams "hate speech" when it obviously is not is just that they have no rational counter argument.
Haha I was also banned there after what seems a lot to me like report brigading and have been on a tour of other platforms since. And I already used up my previous two strikes getting suspended for even dumber reasons and didn't even bother trying to appeal at that point. So there goes a 7 year old account (probably my 3rd Reddit account in total).
And it's funny because I used to be a lot more wild and free with what I said back when I first started on Reddit and never picked up a single suspension. But about two years ago, I felt almost like I was being singled out suddenly, and I got suspension after suspension for stupid shit, all within a few months of each other. I actually picked up the 3rd strike then too but managed to successfully appeal it, so I've been on the final warning since then.
I miss the little niche communities and could probably use workarounds to make a new account but part of me thinks it's maybe time to leave it behind. Besides, wouldn't surprise me if it's just a matter of time before they go on the same direction as Facebook and Twitter, if they aren't already silently heading that way. Their current CEO used to be moderator of the jailbait subreddit. So just like Facebook and Twitter, they're also run by a rich incel.
Just want to ad that brigading is common at reddit. Again as a mod, I saw the "reports" and I believe that once a post or comment reached a certain level of reports then the Admins stepped in and at least removed the post or at worst banned the poster.
You are seeing it like me. Not going to do a "new" work around account. I want my account unbanned. I really would like to know what you did to gain 2 successful reinstatements.
I think that when I successfully appealed before, I must've just caught someone in a good mood. Because to be honest the ban that I successfully appealed was for a much spicier comment than the ban that I was now unsuccessful at appealing. So the impression I get is that it just depends on if the person seeing your appeal is an asshole or not.
thanks for your response. Maybe I am wrong and there a few real human beings over there reading appeals.
