Summary

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico questioned Western support for Ukraine, criticizing President-elect Donald Trump’s pledge to end the Ukraine war in 24 hours as unrealistic but suggesting reduced U.S. aid could push for a resolution.

Fico, who has echoed pro-Russian rhetoric, argued that ending the “killing of Slavs” should be prioritized and stated that Slovakia would resist taking on U.S. aid responsibilities if Trump cuts support.

Fico also defended his appearance on Russian state TV as standard diplomacy and proposed reforms to Slovakia’s electoral system, including higher thresholds for parliamentary representation.

Tbh I’m having a hard time understanding why these authoritarian leaders are basically low key begging Ukraine to actually commit to their theoretically-possible crash nuclear program they’ve mentioned a couple times. They can do it. If people stop giving them support, they will.
