I generally use Lemmy through my phone browser: safari on iPhone. Starting a few weeks ago. I can no longer get to the primary url. When I try, the progress bar stops partway through, I get a long delay and eventually see “a problem repeatedly occurred on https://lemmy.world”.

I assumed there was some sort of update and was patient but it doesn’t appear to be getting fixed

As a workaround, I’ve been using https://old.lemmy.world

Is this a known problem or can someone help look into this?

It’s also not letting me edit to add to my post but

  • sometimes the main url works if I’m navigating to a specific comment, or it will load with no data and reloading might work

  • this is probably a different complaint, but all too many links hard-code the primary url. So I’m trying to use old.lemmy.world but links keep sending me to the broken lemmy.world. I have to wait for it to timeout and fail, then edit the irl to insert the”old.” It’s really frustrating. If someone is intentionally using a specific user interface, they should be able to stay within that interface by default

If it makes a difference, this is on my iPhone running iOS 18.0.1

The default gui works fine on my ancient iPad stuck on iPadOS 16
