I always enjoyed the monthly contests on the r/cocktails. Nobody seems to participate in the synchronized Fridays, would that be better as a monthly thing? I will put my ideas in as comments, and anyone else please feel free to add an idea as a comment and upvote/downvote the ideas here, will leave this up until 2024.

(As a mod, what I'd like is tags! I don't want to require a recipe and picture here but want to be able to tag posts as "drink" if it has all that, or "review", or "meta" for something like this post!)

A pinned thread for non alcoholic recipes and drinks (I'm sure we could all use these for holiday parties, there's always someone who cannot or doesn't want to drink)

As a casual lurker, I'd just like to recipe ideas with reviews/descriptions. I'm one of those folks who will buy an ingredient for one cocktail, then not know what else to do with it.

You can post with a request :) Again I wish for tags!

A pinned thread with resources for anyone struggling with alcoholism.

Monthly ingredient challenge - like the r/cocktails contests, a monthly thread with a specific challenge to create a new cocktail and rules for submissions. Winner is most upvoted post and wins nothing but glory, but we all get ideas and recipes.

More pictures.

Should post titles & drink posts have more requirements? Like: Drink Name, Recipe, Picture, and taste notes/impressions?

[-] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Definitely. It would also be great to have glassware used too(if known). That's often a follow up question in the comments.

A monthly synch thread but with no winner. Use a specified ingredient in a novel or known recipe and post a picture and recipe for your drink.

Should drink posts not have requirements, but an example of an ideal drink post in the sidebar?

[-] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

This would be very helpful. To me this is the same as having a "requirement". You just have a suggested post format and hope people get all the info.

A local bars and drinks pinned post for bar reviews, and reviews of drinks you bought, did not make.

Drinks with something other than or in addition to ethanol, and sugar, e.g. caffeine, kavalactone, theanine, etc.

Cocktails, the libationary art!

1651 readers

A place for conversation about cocktails, ingredients, home mixology, the bar industry or liquor industry, glassware - this is not an exhaustive list. If you think it's in some way related to cocktails it's probably fine.

If you post something you didn't create give credit whenever possible.

Pictures and recipes are encouraged when posting a drink as a standalone post. Example of an ideal drink post:

We love garnishes.

Remember the code of conduct, keep it nice. In terms of cocktails- specific etiquette that might be different from other communities:

Mentioning your blog, insta, website, book or bar is allowed, yes. For now at least, we do allow self-promotion. If it gets out of hand this might change.

A good post with a drink you don't like is still a good post! Try not to conflate the drink and the post or poster. If someone has a relevant title, gorgeous photo and clearly formatted recipe of what you consider a truly terrible drink, a comment is more appropriate than a downvote.

On that topic: Polite critique/reviews of drinks (or posts, images, etc.) is allowed here. Encouraged , even. It's a good tool for improving your drinks and content. Really, just be nice.
