Hi. I’m Japanese and  I have a question about the usage of the term ‘dig’ in English, especially in the context of music.

In Japanese music culture, we often use the word ‘Dig’ (ディグる) as a slang term meaning to search for or discover new music, especially hidden gems or unknown artists. The term ‘Digる’ (pronounced ‘dig-ru’) is derived from English and was originally used by DJs who would dig in a box full of random vinyl records at music stores to find unknown tracks. However, nowadays, it’s also used more broadly to describe searching through vast music libraries like Spotify or diving deep into specific genres or artists.

My question is: does this usage of ‘dig’ exist in English-speaking music communities as well?

Thanks.
