if there's anything trump is immune to, it's all of these dozens upon dozens (hundreds?) of damning revelations, any one of which would torpedo anyone else's prospect of walking free, let alone having a career in politics, let alone being a fucking presidential nominee.

every media outlet fears trump's wrath, because anyone he criticizes gets death threats, even though everything he says is 100% false bullshit

if harris doesn't win this by a landslide, then buckle your fucking seatbelts

Even if she does win this by a landslide.

For those of us ignorant of the Logan act:

The Logan Act (1 Stat. 613, 18 U.S.C. § 953, enacted January 30, 1799) is a United States federal law that criminalizes the negotiation of a dispute between the United States and a foreign government by an unauthorized American citizen. The intent behind the Act is to prevent unauthorized negotiations from undermining the government's position.

Like what Regan did when Carter was president.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Or what Nixon did while LBJ was president.

Starting to think that Republicans don't follow the rules

I'm pretty sure Florida is a right to work state, meaning trump has the absolute right to contact his boss for direction whenever he pleases/needs guidance.

  1. stop talking about it
  2. Arrest the criminal

Why is this so hard?

Imagining that a prosecutor could achieve the burden of proof on this is wishful thinking. This is yet another post title passing off opinion as fact.

Actual title from the article:

Logan Act: Why it could be illegal for Trump to call Putin

Unless he or Putin come out and explicitly state he was performing diplomacy on behalf of the United States, and not e.g., conducting “personal business”, there is literally no case.

Sure that personal business is undoubtedly quid pro quo, but that’s technically not illegal… just corrupt as fuck.

Do we honestly believe that Trump's international communications aren't being recorded by someone? Doesn't even have to be us thanks to things like Five Eyes.

And before he left office, he was diverting critically needed tests from our own first responders to Russia.

Shitbag.

And yet he's still on the ballot.

Because Qonservatives love rapists that double as Russian-asset racists.

Also Bob Woodward likes book sales over country

[–] [email protected] 14 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

Maybe in four more years he can sorta be put on trial for it.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 weeks ago

It has to be 12 years out. 4 is too close to an election cycle. They can't look like they are going after him after all.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 weeks ago

You are very optimistic.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

He'll never be put on trial for this, and not for the usual reasons. The Logan Act has rarely been prosecuted, and none of the cases that were prosecuted resulted in convictions. It likely violates the First Amendment. It's entirely possible the Supreme Court would make a unanimous decision on this one.

This isn't the first time the Logan Act has been brought up in regards to Trump, and I wish the media would stop. Of all the Not Happening of Trump crimes, this is the most Not Happening.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 weeks ago

It likely violates the First Amendment.

I know this will be one of the defenses for it, but this really is not a first amendment issue, it's a national security issue.

  • "War" also revealed that Trump sent Putin COVID-19 testing machines during the early days of the pandemic for the Russian leader's personal use.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 weeks ago

How did the party that's supposed to care for American values end up supporting a candidate selling their values to the lowest bidder?

This has to be a simulation. I'm so confused.

Oh, so he's calling him?
