@[email protected] fire os and iOS
Microsoft Windows
@[email protected] Tell me this poll was held on Mastodon without telling me it was held on Mastodon lol
Not sure if I should pick Linux because I technically do "use" it on my server that I ssh into every few days, but I'd never use it on my actual computer.
@[email protected] this is such a mastodon nerd question.
in real life, noone uses linux. people buy themselves a computer from the closest reseller and try to work with what they bought. cheap.
@[email protected]
Windows 7 (64 - desktop, 32 - nettop, 32 starter - netbook)
Smartphone AuroraOS
push-button phone KaiOS
- now I'm learning HaikuOS in practice
@[email protected] Does the survey only count one OS? For me it's Windows, Linux and Android. But apparently only Linux was counted.
@[email protected] sad to see android this high in the list. We are losing the desktop pc's. I believe the desktop pc is undervalued! And should return to more households. It's more powerful than a laptop or mobile. You can run Linux. And it's also more ergonomic than looking down all day. Hehe

The poll is multi-choice, tho. A lot of the people picking a desktop OS are also picking a mobile OS.
@[email protected] @[email protected] I wonder how much damage smartphones, now being most people's main interface to the world, have done to discourse and reading. I've heard that most people don't own computers. And I know that trying to read any documents or longform articles on a phone is cumbersome and irritating. If someone sends me a link, I email it to myself and read on a real screen. Most people don't have real screens... so they only read tweet length content. Have smartphones destroyed attention spans?
@stevenaleach @jon Definitely. The smartphone decreased the attention span, if only because of the "social media".
We went from books to newspaper, to mainly online posts and blogs or articles. And now you see most people consume their news from small headlines alone, like on X.
And like you said, reading long in depth stories. Or news. Or other kind of material, only using a small screen on the phone isn't the same. It's so small, you get eye strain. Most people didn't read this last line..
@[email protected] @[email protected] I also dislike the default mastodon character limit! Why? Because we are afraid of any arbitrary lengthy text? It's the fediverse, not X or Facebook!
@[email protected] @[email protected] things come and go. what concerns me is how phones have made 2-3 generations of computer illiterates out of most people who are basically technophobes anyway. #the_average_person_is_st00pid
@[email protected] @[email protected] agree. About to get mini computer
@alex_[email protected]
Wow - 57% Linux! 👍
#Windows #macos #Linux #Android #iOS #Chromeos #Computer #mobile #Vivaldi
@[email protected] Windows right now, Linux sometimes. Depends on how much I'm sick of the other one.
@[email protected]
Windows 10 (against my will)
Fedora 40 (by necessity)
Android 11 (I would root if I could)
@[email protected] But I'm an edge case as a SysEng overseeing about 100 ESXi hosts and hundreds of VMs around the world.
You forgot FreeBSD, the duct tape of the networking community.
@[email protected] Linux Mint Cinnamon on my laptop, Android on my phone. Forced to use Windows 11 🤮 at work. I even talked to IT but they said that we had a contract with M$, even if lots of us use Linux on our personal devices. They hate Win11 too.
@[email protected] OpenBSD on the ‘real’ computer, iOS on the phone.
I am a retired college professor. Taught programming, databases, security, webdev, ...
@[email protected] To the surprise of no one, a bunch of you weird Linux people are on Mastodon. I don’t bother with such things, after all Peppermint and Fedora serve my needs just fine.
@[email protected] Added up, 145% use an OS? #doingthemath
