When I adopted her she was 21 pounds and I had to use a small dog carrier. She's now at a healthy 13 (she's long).

Another photo of her from her chonk days:

How'd you get my cat?

Zombii

She is absolutely gorgeous by the way. Zombii used to be super chonky too, but she lost quite a bit of weight. She is 15 now, and more playful than ever

Don't be fooled. She'll get you 9/10 times. Her quarter rag doll will kick in and then she will get mad about it lol

Had to do a double take. Even the "Why are you looking at me" expression is similar!

My cat looks similar to yours :D

You can tell they're of quality because of the patch 🤌🏾

My part maine coon absolute unit is finally accepting their diet. He was 22 pounds, down to about 19 right now. He can almost reach everywhere for grooming again and he's so much more active

Looking fancy with his portrait

That was a good day. I had to learn how to shave and wipe her bum (when I got her she just had dingle berries!?). Now she can get there all by herself. Your boy will get there!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've never successfully shaved mine so I take him in periodically to have a professional do it. The wiping though is important he gets a bit messy 😕 One day, I'm hopeful in a month or two

I've only been able to do around her bum. Have you tried blindfolding him? I learned it from the crocodile hunter when I was a kid and it seems to help with cats.

Love to see it!

How much was she at chonk weight? For science.

When I adopted her, they were like, "she's big. You'll need a large carrier." I had purchased this "extra large" cat carrier. I had checked the reviews and people were saying it was great for Maine coons and what not. I went to go get her, happy with my research, and they just looked at it and said "Um... That's not gonna work."

We ended up trading carriers. She still uses it, though now she has a ton of room in there.

Any advice? I'm trying to slim mine down lol. I've got her on some royal canin (or whatever it is) weight loss food (1/4th cup 2x daily), but is there anything else that can help?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I did the same with the food ("diet" kibble, same measurements). The biggest thing was getting her to move. I had to dedicate time after work to play with her until she was a little winded. I did minimum of 4 days a week. And it took some time. I adopted her in 2021, so it took a good 3 years to get her down. The smaller they get, the easier it gets because they start doing extra stuff on their own. Like, once she got energy, she would do "zoomies." First just here and there, and soon she was doing laps at night just cause she could. When she lost enough to get to that point (I want to say that was around 18 or 17), she started to lose more. The first year I got her to the 18/17 range, but the by the second year, she was one pound from her goal.

Awesome, thanks! I'll try and get her moving!

Also came back to add that if she did get any treats, she had to work for them (still does). Jump up on something, follow me to another room, etc.
