Today’s game is Half Life 2. I heard it got a UI update specifically for Steam Deck, so I had to try it. I ended up playing way more than I meant too (made it all the way to the Boat Segment and got stuck on the helicopter fight). I forgot how damn good this game is, it’s hard for me to resist playing it too and procrastinating all my other titles. Though ig all that matters is I’m having fun.

I picked up the bucket in the photo at the train station and carried it as far as I could. I ended up getting all the way to the teleporter with it before sadly I lost it, ending what I’ve dubbed Bucket%. I found another one after that and carried it all the way to the sewage tunnels for fun, but accidentally dropped it and couldn’t get it back.

Bucket% sounds awesome, honestly. i feel like I can hear the sound effects just from the ui and screenshot.

thanks for sharing this. i look forward to more.

The UI sound effects are ingrained in my head. Valve just has a talent for making memorable games

I have too many Half-life games and mods installed and refuse to remove them to make room for other, larger, games.

Now I will have to try the bucket%.

Can't say I've heard of steam being unable to uninstall games before.

Good luck. Maybe you’ll figure out a way to get the bucket past the teleporter. I’d love to see how far this thing can actually be taken

Joseph Anderson has made a similar trolley challenge. It’s a cinematic masterpiece: https://youtu.be/RgqRIFj4Zrk

Came to the comments to post exactly that video, happily surprised to already find it here. Impeccable taste, sir.

That’s the first I’ve heard of this guy. I just saved it to watch for later. It’s definitely amusing to watch. Things like this always are

HL2 is one of my all time favorites, I enjoy going on a tour of City 17 while mowing down enemies, and solving puzzles.

For me the most interesting part of HL1 or HL2 is the journey when you enter The Citadel or Xen it's a bit sad because the journey is over.

And then there's the Episodes!

If Bucket% isn't a recognized challenge run. It should be.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Sadly the teleporter forced me to end my run. If I had more time I’d be interested in finding a way to skip it but sadly as it stands now that’s the furthest I can take it. I’m now realizing I should have timed myself though to really get into that speedrunning mindset

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Can mods be used in speed runs?

Let's say that the Bucket takes up a weapon slot. So it goes with you through transitions like the teleporter. But that needs a catch. Like say you drop the bucket if you get below 30% health for instance and have to pick it back up.

Easily one of the best games of all time, the whole series too. The sounds, the designs, the mechanics, the puzzles, but the story…the story is top tier.

If you have time to finish them all, you won’t be disappointed!

Try tin can

I had the orange box when it came out, so HL2 is very nostalgic for me, it was one of the first PC games I played, and completed. I still need to continue my playthrough of HL2 VR.

Sadly I have never beaten HL2, only made it so far before something fucks up my save, so maybe I’ll try and finish it this time (and hope nothing happens to it). I beat the OG half life though back in January, so much fucking fun, even with how old it is.
