Oh man, I was going to wishlist it and wait but now I'll have to buy it on launch week.

EDIT: Sabre Interactive understands that the Emperor's light shields the faithful, making dark machine rites like Denuvo unnecessary. Such heretical rites only agitate the machine spirits, causing discordant whispers that play into the hands of the enemies of Man. The Omnissiah smiles upon this decision.

If this game releases with good quality my friends and I are day 2 customers for sure. Seems fun as hell from the videos.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I'm still pretty gutted about there being a season pass and DLC and stuff, but... I might be a week 4 customer 👀 it does look fun!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

On the upshot, that season pass and the DLC stuff is all cosmetic only. All gameplay additions will be free for all.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah that's true, you're right. Altho, I am still skeptical of it - if you have DLC ready to go before launch... Why isn't it in the base game?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's like booking a hotel: Basic price will get you a room for the night, with all the common amenities, but if you want late checkout, you'll pay extra. Sure, they could fold that into the basic price and make it the norm, but if you know you'll leave early anyway, you'll be paying for something you don't want.

The metaphor breaks apart if you look too closely - for hotels, early checkout is a convenience since they can get the room ready sooner for the next guest, so they'll incentivise that, while the devs have already put in the work. On the other hand, the late checkout is a service of convenience while a DLC is an excitement feature, where the content is instead an incentive to pay more.

Either way, I feel like add-ons for games aren't too different from add-ons in many other industries: "This is the basic , with the price we feel we can charge for it. This here is an extra you can have for an extra charge."

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

But if you don't pay for late checkout, you can still check out. If you don't pay for extra DLC, you just don't get to use whatever is in the DLC full stop

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If you don't pay for late checkout, you can't check out late. If you don't pay for the DLC, you can't play the DLC. You can still check out at the normal time (which is the basic service) or play the base game, respectively.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Yeah I just think the allegory doesn't work at that point, but I do understand what you're saying. I honestly still think it's bullshit, but it is definitely a case of each to their own!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I still strongly dislike limiting cosmetics so much, especially in a setting where they can mean so much. Darktide's $20 skins pissed me right off: role-playing is 100% part of the game and that price is absurd.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

Honestly, fair criticism, as it is still a $60 game and in my old timer's brain that means everything should be unlockable through gameplay. Unfortunately, that's just not how the market seems to work anymore, so I'll just be glad their extra monetization is only limited to cosmetics and not gameplay stuff as well.

It is better to buy for the emperor than save for yourself

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

the emperor is nickel and diming me to build his golden throne 😭

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

Better wait a bit, until the inofficial beta is over, Denuvo or not.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I would hesitate to call our foes "Intelligences," but they are most certainly Abominable, brother.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 2 months ago (1 children)

This seems really promising. Unfortunately, I expect they'll still use Steam DRM, but everything I've heard so far is immensely promising so who know, maybe we'll get lucky and they'll skip even that.

[–] [email protected] 39 points 2 months ago (5 children)

Steam DRM is nothing like stuff people should be aware of. Ask any modder for confirmation.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

Of course. Doesn't mean its not nice to be able to avoid it though. Personally, it will have no real impact on my purchasing decision, but the less DRM, the better.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Modder here. Denuvo has absolutely no effect on modding. Steam DRM checks the integrity of the executable and also crashes on breakpoints. That said, it's easy to remove with Steamless. Memory hacks work fine.

Edit: However, Space Marine 2 is going to use EAC, which is a kernel-level anti-cheat which prevents any modding short of utilizing or creating private hacks that may involve rogue system drivers.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Hard disagree on denuvo. If it's no problem for you then you must have tons of experience in re. Which puts you into some 1%-ish group. Depends on the type of mods you do of course.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

I do have the experience but if you attach a debugger to a non-Denuvo or a Denuvo game, then have any hacker/modder come into the room and look at the code, manipulate it or inject new code, they won't notice the difference or face any obstacles.

They don't need Denuvo protection because the Emperor protects.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

Another concise and simple answer to Denuvo and DRM is "exterminatus".

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They are going to use EAC though, which is arguably an even worse inclusion than Denuvo, even if it's not a DRM

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Since they have competitive online multiplayer an anti-cheat is needed, otherwise the MP turns into a hellhole of cheaters. As much as I wish that this wasn't the case.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Yes, but there is no need to go for a ring0 anticheat

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

...why the overspecific denial? Will it be involved at a later date?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Is "No." an over-specific denial?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"Will this game have DRM?"

"No."

"Why are you overly specific?"

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Yep, that's my read as well. No idea what he's talking about.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (2 children)

No, it's the "at launch" part that was added.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You mean the "at launch" part that the writer added to the article and isn't a part of the official Saber statement? Something you'd know if you read the article past the introductory paragraph?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yes, that "at launch". But you trust that FAQ, not like I want to do anything about that.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (9 children)

Have you considered taking therapy? Because you're literally making up shit to hate on a game, it's not healthy.

From the FAQ:

Q: Does the game use DRM software (ie. Denuvo…)?

A: No.

What "at launch" part?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (7 children)

The "at launch" part in the article, right there. But you can trust the nonbinding FAQ.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

We also learn in the FAQ that Easy Anti Cheat will be used on PC at launch

I'm sorry, but what part of that says Denuvo or DRM?

Games are comming back

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If I had any expendable income right now, I'd preorder for that stance alone.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Just in case they run out of digital copies

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

It's more convenient for them to know in advance how many copies to not print
