*West Philippine Sea, also known as Bien Dong

Awesome. I asked in another thread a day or two ago if there were a name we could call it which didn't reflect China's claim. I won't remember Bien Dong because I'm a stupid American who doesn't speak foreigner, but I will try to remember West Philippine Sea. Thanks!

Vietnam calls it the East Sea. Indonesia is calling part of it the Natuna Sea.

It's tough because it has been called some form of China Sea for over 600 years by almost every country and almost every official cartographic organization. Only in the past 20 years has the name come under scrutiny outside that region due to the behavior of China.

I understand that it's a traditional name. I'm just hoping that there will be a trend to call it something else (like apparently Vietnam and Indonesia are doing) just to piss of the CCP. After all, we're talking about a government so sensitive that they couldn't handle people pretending their leader is Winnie the Pooh.

I was thinking south of china sea. To indicate its in relation to china but not a part of it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Right, that's why I love the name!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

That’s valid, but unfortunately so is:

It’s China’s sea

Which one? They have so many!

The south one.

Meanwhile, 2024 is shaping up to be the hottest year since the end of the last glacial maximum.

Cool. How about leaving it there?

Fuck all life on Earth. There are billions of dollars left in them there carcasses.

Now we know the real reason why Chinese are invading its neighbors in South China Sea.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 3 months ago

That is one of multiple reasons, but the big ones are still military and economic supremacy. If they control all shipping and fishing there, they will be far, far more powerful than they are now. They don't need the natural gas to be desperate to make it all theirs. That's just a bonus.
