The worst part of a migraine, is when it subsides, you're in a state of hypervigilance in case it returns.

Bed, cat, iPad games and feeling sorry myself for today I think lol

Been forcing some daffodil bulbs in water to hopefully get some indoor winter blooms. They seem to be growing well, looking forward to flowers in a couple weeks. It's way easier than I thought and would recommend it as a project if you've got a sunny spot for them. Might try tulips next.

Fuck me. I heard evacuation alarms coming that I thought were from the shops so I went out to film the response and then alarms started going off in my building. Fucking RIP the people on the 22nd floor. I got confused going down the fire escape from the 2nd

I'm outside now, not wearing any shoes, but I ain't fucking dying in an apartment fire. So I'm just chilling half dressed outside barefoot. FML

Also this is the first time I've ever heard the "woop woop woop, evacuate now. Emergency" myself. Luckily common sense kicked in and I fled down the stairs. But I left my keycard in my room, so when they clear it I'll have to get buzzed back in

Edit: apparently a fire sprinkler pipe in the car park got hit by a car and burst, which triggered the entire evacuation system. The fireies have to stop it from flooding without affecting the rest of the fire system before we can go back in. I guess flying out without grabbing a pair of shoes or my keycard was an over reaction, but I guess it means the whole "get out and do not grab ANYTHING they taught me in kinder and primary school worked

clarificationOkay so I realised I didn't explain this well. I heard the "woop woop woop" off in the distance and assumed it was the shops down the road. I didn't see anything on Vic emergency so my first thought was pretty much "oh FFS I hope there's not another stabbing" so I went out to my balcony and started filming (I heard sirens approaching). Then I heard the thingy in my room start going off and it took a few seconds to click that it was my building. So then I ran out the door and forgot where the nearest fire stairs were (there regular stairs that head down to a courtyard, as well as 2 sets of fire stairs near the elevator). Completely missed the exterior stairs lmao

After having alarms go off due to someone cooking so many times, I simply ignore the alarm my apartment building.

[โ€“] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

That doesn't sound like a great idea, but apartments are all built to fire resistance standards, so as long as the builders and building inspectors did their job, and your building was built this century, you should be safe, at least until the firies do a walk through and tell you to get out. In hindsight, flying out as quickly as I did was probably a bad idea. If there was a fire and it was in front of my door I'd've been pretty screwed since I was out the door before the door was even properly open.

Also I ran down the stairs, and I'd just polished off a nice big bowl of ice cream so I'm not feeling too great now

I inadvertently listened to most of MSO's performance Carmina Burrara yesterday live on ABC Classical while doing my taxes and was all "oh it's THAT doomsday song!" And then all of yesterday arvo and today it's been bugging me, where did I hear an English language parody of it, was it misheard lyrics, no it was simpler, was it an ad, what ad was it, what ad, was it the UK, was it here...

... and then it finally came to me out of nowhere this evening. I only knew it from Gruen as it aired before I moved to Australia, but the wave of nostalgia over LOTR and the excitement of videos on the internet came flooding back once I watched it and it sent me into a bit of a YouTube rabbit hole. Many of you probably know this one.

It's a big ad, ve-ry big ad...

Whoopsy fingers slipped and I bought some more art, this time two canvas prints of the following:

I'll calm down after this and stop buying art for a while.

I was looking at bauhaus art the other day. I reckon I could make a stencil of the face and spray bleach on a black T-shirt to make one. I'd leave out the circle, circles are a drag to make look crispy sharp... unless anyone has a laser cutter. https://99designs-blog.imgix.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/1920px-Bauhaus-Signet.svg.png?auto=format&q=60&fit=max&w=930

I have a cricut, what were you thinking for stencil medium?

[โ€“] [email protected] 0 points 4 months ago (1 children)

No idea tbh, I used to use slip sheeting which is kind of like the black square of plastic that came in the bottom of the original green bags but for warehousing. Being able to use a weak spray glue to stick the fabric to the stencil was best for sharp edges.

I actually have stencil material, but it feels kinda like very thin silicon. Can cut stuff up to and including balsa tho if you want choppy choppy, just sling me the pattern

Alternately i actually have iron on vinyl and fabric pens i can load in the fucker to just draw directly on a tee (works with light colours)

Hmmm. Now I'm wondering if i can 3d print an adapter to fit a bleach pen to the head and draw with that....would probably wick like a mofo though....

There's a wide variety of refillable graffiti pens. Those folk like to use custom really hard to clean ink.
