A tool for collecting micro cores

Hello. I am currently working for a University doing field work for mountain pine beetle studies. We have a project coming up and my boss' boss wants us to collect micro cores while we are doing our usual measurements. She asked me to figure out the logistics.

So far, the only instrument I have found for micro cores is a Trephor, which it looks like we'd have to order from Italy. Anyone ever use any other tools? Or even know what the tools might be called so I can look them up?
