I'm genuinely impressed with their balls. Libs probably won't notice it but they've done this both on twitter and in-game.

Nice to finally have a game without politics

[-] [email protected] 75 points 5 months ago

OP I'm not sure what you're talking about? This game doesn't have politics, it's not some Disney woke nonsense. Not sure if you're thinking of another game.

[-] [email protected] 37 points 5 months ago

Not true, there's a woman on your space ship. Not even Heckdivers is safe from Woke these days.

[-] [email protected] 25 points 5 months ago

Nono that's fine, she's serving you. But you can play as a woman and THATS woke

[-] [email protected] 22 points 5 months ago

I've changed the in-game options to randomize whether I spawn in as a man or woke, and I'm keeping an excel spreadsheet to determine the percentage of SJW propaganda being forced on us. I've been invited onto the Joe Rogan Experience to discuss my findings.

[-] [email protected] 13 points 5 months ago

Really wish you could randomize body type as well

[-] [email protected] 49 points 5 months ago

its not my kind of game, but im LOVING how the devs are using the games online capabilities. i read somewhere that they essentially have a tabletop rpg style DM who manages the events like this and its such a cool idea.

The post before that was amazing too

mission-accomplished-1 mission-accomplished-2 mission-accomplished

[-] [email protected] 46 points 5 months ago

Oh my god, the "the fight continues" banner in the op poster is just pasted over the mission accomplished text data-laughing

[-] [email protected] 42 points 5 months ago

The last thing I want to do is play an online game with all the people who wanted to be the troopers in starship troopers.

[-] [email protected] 43 points 5 months ago

Yeah but friendly fire is always on.

[-] [email protected] 19 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

It feels like a leap to me that they're specifically satirizing Ukraine.

[-] [email protected] 57 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Why? Google "unprovoked invasion" and it's page after page of Ukraine shit, this language has practically been a meme surrounding the ukraine war, and the left has criticised it very heavily: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2023/05/11/gfgh-m11.html

If the devs are socialist-leaning then it tracks. Put it this way they also satirise the use of "authoritarian" to describe socialists in the game, which means they're definitely left of lib.

[-] [email protected] 47 points 5 months ago

The devs absolutely are left-leaning, the whole thing started as an in-joke in their office. They even make it explicit that super-earth doesn't develop any tech of it's own, they just steal it.

[-] [email protected] 36 points 5 months ago

also the "authoritarian light: used for tyrrany" is such a good bit i doubt a lib could come up with it

I was gonna say I think OP called down the jump pack stratagem

They're satirizing the language of political propaganda in general. There's no reason to think they're commenting on Ukraine specifically.

[-] [email protected] 27 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

They're satirizing American imperial language and there are definitely enough people in that studio to have chuckled about Ukraine, or October 7th, etc.

[-] [email protected] 19 points 5 months ago

Yes this is my read

[-] [email protected] 37 points 5 months ago

The game is pretty explicitly about NATO imperialism and isn't subtle with it. It tracks.

[-] [email protected] 23 points 5 months ago

Its the most recent version of this. It would be weirder if Ukraine wasn't at least on some minds.

[-] [email protected] 38 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Egh, it's subtle enough for them libs to not notice... see the flag... looks more UN than NATO-ish so I suppose the least someone can think of is the U.S-led "U.N" campaign in the Korean War...

[-] [email protected] 63 points 5 months ago

As far as I can tell the average helldiver lib hasn't put together that Super Earth is a satire of 21st century western imperialism at all. Asking them "which fascist power is super earth satirizing?" Breaks their brains.

[-] [email protected] 37 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

And why would they? Let them sink into the marsh, as Lenin would've said...

If they want to rebound back, we can accept them back.. until then.... blob-sleep

[-] [email protected] 27 points 5 months ago

I contend that this is the correct interpretation.

[-] [email protected] 36 points 5 months ago

Feels more like satirizing Zionists around 10/7

[-] [email protected] 37 points 5 months ago

That would definitely be a safer bit of satire but I'm convinced there's a ukraine element going on here.

I was looking at Sweden's Left Party and they have seats and an anti-nato position, so it tracks that there could be a whole studio with this mindset.

[-] [email protected] 18 points 5 months ago

Even the anti-nato people tend to be pro-Ukraine.

[-] [email protected] 25 points 5 months ago

Bit of both really

Libs will no doubt take it at face value

[-] [email protected] 35 points 5 months ago

Either we're making this all up in our head or we've got comrades in Sweden.

[-] [email protected] 44 points 5 months ago

I'm quite certain these people are very left of lib.

I need to replay Magicka with the benefit of several years of de-brainworming. Wonder if there were any hints back then.

You've lost me at "this game has politics"

[-] [email protected] 10 points 5 months ago

A lot of games do. It's a storytelling device.

[-] [email protected] 24 points 5 months ago
[-] [email protected] 51 points 5 months ago

Helldivers is a game about being a disposable soldier for a fashest empire. They pretty much copy American propaganda directly. Libs do not get the joke.

[-] [email protected] 24 points 5 months ago

Awooooooooooooooo

[-] [email protected] 23 points 5 months ago

They'll use "full-scale invasion" next

[-] [email protected] 20 points 5 months ago

I believe it more now with Macron pushing to actualy put troops in Ukraine. It would have been questionable before but its impossible to think the devs haven't noticed, this is the closest NATO is getting to directly fighting the latest "unprovoked invasion".

Damn, y'all are finally gonna get me to play this game...

[-] [email protected] 13 points 5 months ago

The game won't be for everyone. It's a PVE horde fighter that mimicks starship troopers in the sense that you mercilessly die a lot. Fun if accurately recreating Starship Troopers sounds fun to you. Devs are cool though.
