Deeply disappointed in Matt for not mentioning these dudes during Hell on Earth

On a mobile device that is almost unreadable. You need to zoom in and scroll back and forth to read each line.

Perhaps a link to the source would be helpful, or ALT text on the image, or both.

I got you fam

Klein-Venedig

Klein-Venedig (lit. 'Little Venice') or Welserland was the most significant territory of the German colonization of the Americas, from 1528 to 1546, in which the Welser banking and patrician family of the Free Imperial Cities of Augsburg and Nuremberg obtained colonial right in the province of Venezuela in return....

ugh

Holy Roman Emperor pays his debts by pawning off some coastal strip of Spanish Venezuela to South German merchants

some Germans actually move there taking a large number of slaves with them

spend their time and energy mostly searching for fabled golden city

fail and all die

later Spanish emperor revokes the land from the German merchants; settlers eventually treated like national heroes in 19th century German romantic literature.
