Haven't seen this discussed anywhere yet.

An air-cooled A4-H2O user with:

  • Intel 13400f + AXP90-X47 Full copper + Noctua fan and duct
  • Sapphire Pulse RX 7900 XT
  • Corsair SFX750
  • 2 Noctua fans on the top for exhaust

I know there are some situations when in A4 having the PSU fan facing inside can work better.

In my case I have an RX 7900 XT and its backplate gets really HOT, which seems like expected from my findings. But with back of the PSU really close to the backplate it gets pretty toasty in there.

Just flipping the PSU to space out the heated sides a little bit does not seem like a good idea, because the PSU fan will be taking all the hot air from the backplate.

However I could flip the fan as well so that it exhausts the air from the PSU onto the backplate. I feel like it should help with airflow behind the GPU and have the hot air being pushed out more easily.

Since the PSU does not get as hot as the backplate it should also help to cooldown the backplate, even if just a little bit.

I'm planning to add an intake fan on the bottom, right under the PSU to help get some colder air in.

And since the PSU can only take the air in from the top side, I may have to figure out some sort of duct work so that it mostly gets the air from the side panel

Anyone tried this before?

Any concerns on flipping the PSU fan in general?
