Check out Mastodon for the Twitter alternative - it's great. I'm really glad I made the jump.
Welcome, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, Those corpo media sites are now a fading memory for me.
Been on Twitter (with Tweetbot) & Reddit (with Apollo) for 10+ years. I kept to my follow list and subreddits and really did not see a lot of the toxicity that everyone talks about. I think that is largely because 1) I was using third party apps and wasn’t getting any adds or suggested posts, and 2) I was mostly lurking and didn’t have a lot of posts or comments. I did find in Reddit that some comments would get harsh responses, but mostly I would get useful answers to questions.
Now using Mastodon and Lemmy/WefWef. Generally, like the experience with some issues with Lemmy in particular. Main issue right now: I hate having to scroll through read posts every time I open Lemmy or an app.
I deleted my Reddit account on July 1st as well. Their distain for the people that provide them free labor was disgusting.
I still use Twitter occasionally, not as much as before, even because I lost interest in many topics I followed before.
I almost cut out Reddit too, since 3th party apps still work at the moment, but when that moment comes I will drop it without any doubts.
Ah, almost forgot, welcome to Lemmy. :)
I left Twitter like half a year before the whole Elon Musk stuff, and I stopped using Reddit on the day the blackout protests started. I haven't deleted the accounts though.
I deactivated my 15 year old Twitter account this weekend.
Then I deleted all my Reddit posts.
Then I created a new email account and I'm migrating off of Google.
I guess I should go check out Nebula or something next, and try out PeerTube.
Is there any app for Lemmy (Android) that scrolls without stutters every now and then? I tried Thunder and Jarboa and although the scrolling is smooth most of the times, but they stutter occasionally and the experience is not very intuitive. When I was on Reddit, I was using Infinity for Reddit which was smooth af. I am looking for an a Lemmy app that looks and feels like Infinity for Reddit.
Not an app but try wefwef.app as PWA. The UI is same as that of Apollo.
Twitter has become a toxic cesspit even before musks takeover. He just made things far worse to the point where it's basically just attempted doxing and permanent ad-hominem barrages. It's not worth any time.
welcome! enjoy your time on the fediverse! personally i found fedi back in '19 but the latest stuff with reddit re-sparked my interest and got me into using lemmy
I can't stand chaining comments (with one word in each comment). It's fun to see them once in a while, but they appear as often as spams now.
Me too
Deleted my Twitter account a month ago and Reddit just committed suicide. I'm good with it.
