Why did they spend most of the post talking about how there are situations where even voting in local elections is worthless and everyone needs to focus their energy on dual power structures and come out with the conclusion of 'vote bloo no matter who guys :'('

[-] [email protected] 26 points 5 months ago

Their conclusion was even stranger: vote republican-red, but for the least awful shade of it between two extremely republican-red shades.

I personally think we should at least consider aiming a little higher than barely staying alive

So impressive are the credentials of reading theory and picketing city hall, I nearly forgot to ask if there is anything else a leftist can possibly do to push for progress.

The whole post seems like an argument against electoralism, but what do I know...

[-] [email protected] 35 points 5 months ago

Don't you love how the centrists say that if we don't vote for the genocidal maniac his buddy will kill everyone you love, and then their solution to that is to calmly follow the rules with no change in tactics in the same breath?

"please vote for the fascist that can be reasoned with!"

truth is these people are in denial and i think they wont bother until they have to learn that lesson the hard way

[-] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

It's straight up Owenist Utopianism.

[-] [email protected] 26 points 5 months ago

Not voting for dems is also a strategic move. If they want power, they'll have to move left.

[-] [email protected] 26 points 5 months ago

They're conflating local elections, which is very hit-and-miss, with the sham election that is the presidential election. I mean, we're talking about a system where faithless electors are a thing. You're voting for a pool of people who pinky swear they're vote for the guy you've voted for. This is called a sham.

I just want to know what this thing is they get out of the “just glide” fascist or the “if framed patriotically” fascist that they don’t get out of the foaming at the mouth fascist. It sounds like they’re talking about local leaders, so no big national issues at stake. That plus the fact that they’re talking about abstracts instead of specific policies they got accomplished through their lesser evil strategy makes me think they either didn’t get anything out of those “respectable” fascists or what they did get was laughable.

[-] [email protected] 21 points 5 months ago

What they get out of it is the fascist that isn't loud about the fascism. Sure, it's still fascism, but at least he's not ruining the positive vibes by constantly reminding you about it.

Pragmatic Genocide enjoyers are the worst people on the planet

Anti-electoralism gets boiled down to in-group aesthetics just like everything else on social media, but the genuine article is a historically based argument about the ability to do revolution at the ballot box. It’s about not repeating the mistakes of the past and accidentally directing energy where it’s going to burn you out. And it’s difficult to even make this argument in the imperial core in a way that lands because the base for revolutionary community and activity has been so thoroughly purged from here.

Meh, they are doing something useful. Some praxis, some right to speak mao-shining

[-] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago

75% of the post is just arguments for why voting for the lesser evil is not "strategic praxis"

Who the hell is this supposed to convince?

[-] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Is this an actual anarcho-Bidenist in the wild?

This almost sounds like a fed post. But they're not even saying they're an anarchist nor do any praxis, I think they're literally just a confused lib. They just said they're in the "Leftist community" because they're in a discord chat with other people who do praxis and one of whom identifies as an anarchist, and now think they're a Leftist by extension.

I would love to read that discord because I'm going to guess that everyone hates them in that group. I imagine they are all talking about how to set up real systems of mutual aid and this person logs on and is like "ackshually, guys, we just need to pokemon go vote" and explains why voting for the lesser evil is the most important thing we can do and that we just need to come to terms with participating in the system we're dealt with to survive because the masses will never develop political consciousness and there is no hope of revolution while everyone just wishes they would shut the fuck up.

[-] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

Yea, I definitely read the first couple paragraphs as them building their progressive bona-fides: 'trust me guys, i know my shit'. Not that mutual aid and community building aren't great and worthwhile endeavors, but they aren't the direct-action political activism implied by the pick-the-lesser-evil conclusion.

And then there's the 'please vote' framing of the lemmy repost, which is a much more black-and-white 'principled leftists say you should vote' suggestion.

[-] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

Trust me I do all that shit too, don't vote for Biden

[-] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

The more liberals tell me donald trump will destroy amerikkka, the more i think it would be a good thing to see him win.

But libs often over-promise and under-deliver, so i am not too optimistic that trump will provide enough of a death blow to amerikkkan empire.

[-] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

The most involved people on the ground have a front row seat to the Biden show and see the damage he has done in regards to our social safety nets. Reeks of utter BS idk anyone like this who gives a fuck about voting for Biden

[-] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

I couldn't help my self I had to respond to one of the dumbass comments on that post. I'll almost certainly regret the effort :/
