Are there specific websites, carriers, or brokers that helped you to find the best rate possible? Any tips/strategies that helped you?

If you're lazy, get an insurance broker who will find you the best rate/coverage combo possible, and they'll get a little off the top in return.

If you've got time to burn, hit all the major Insurers that serve your province, and either complete their questionnaires online, or call an agent and do it by phone.

Also, you may get a break combining multiple types of insurance if you have a car, need life insurance, etc.

Random tip: Only ever do term insurance, and always get a large lump sum, none of this adjustable coverage, etc. Chances are your insurance from work is shit, don't rely on it.

i just re-did my car and home insurance, and CAA and the cooperators (with a work discount) both gave way better quotes than i had

Honestly insurance is such a scammy nightmare.

We used https://squareone.ca for like ten years (in Ontario) and they actually turned out to be pretty great when I ended up filing a claim on a damaged computer.

Chose them principally based on the fact you could build your own policy and instantly sign up online, without any phone calls or the other typical “request a quote so we (and all the companies we sell your info to) can harass you forever” bullshit.

Since we finally bought last year we’re with CAA now, but only because sq1 didn’t offer homeowners.

Worth looking into anyway.
