Hi LJ!

Might be a dumb question, but I'll ask it anyway... Would it be possible for the app to always show .jpg pictures instead of .webp? If I remeber correctly, if you upload a .jpg or .png file, Lemmy converts it to .webp. Can this be reversed in Sync?

If you mean the times where you want to share a picture to other apps/services and they don't support .webp then I don't want to get with those.

It’s the best compression. What do you think the hesitation is? (Screenshot plus a quick crop is probably your best bet until adoption).

WebP isn't that great in lossy scenarios. It beats PNG in lossless, but I find the webp artifacts more noticeable than the JPEG ones at similar file sizes.

Plus, shitty old apps don't deal with webp well. With how Lemmy offers all kinds of image formats natively, I can see the benefit in allowing the user to pick a default file format.

Lossy conversion a 2nd time without a reason does in fact sound stupid

I'd prefer if they weren't converted into .webp in the first place but that's out of my control. What I'm asking for is an OPTION you don't have to toggle. Also it's not without a reason.

If it's already only available as WebP on the server, you have to convert it back.

I understand, I'm asking whether the app can do it for me. Or if there's some Lemmy feature Sync can leverage (if it converts one way, maybe it can do it the other way).
