No, this is what modern graffiti looks like:

TY... I was getting irritated by how many upvotes this post was getting...

Like hate speech on wall isn't the same thing as graffiti... Tagging your block cause you in a gang is also not really a graffiti ...

Anyways... Thx again

Believe it or not, I posted this meme to make a joke, not because of my enduring, seething hatred for grafitti as an artform

The meme community disappointed you with its lack of scientific accuracy?

Oh yeah, some people make really beautiful art with graffiti!

Graf is probably better than ever now, shame it's not as long lasting was in Rome. Hopefully some of the best artists pick up sculpting so people in the future might have a little taste.

Digital pictures of their work last indefinitely, just saying

Edit: To everyone mentioning that digital photos aren't guaranteed to last forever, yup: That's what indefinitely kinda means. There is no guarantee. Could last another day because the medium the only copy was stored on failed, or it could last for thousands of years because it was properly backed up in a lossless format.

Things stored digitally are sadly anything but everlasting, a lot is lost to time already

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You have to take measures to preserve and back it up, it's definitely not guaranteed.

physical printed photos of these digital images may last /s

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

good luck with that

Not where I live.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Both are wrong. Ancient graffiti looks like this:

Graff writers will usually cross out stupid shit like this.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I am always amazed at the amount of support and outcry I hear on the side of graffiti when it comes up on the internet. Not that it often outweighs the people who say "hands off other people's shit", but the number is still much larger than I expect.

It all depends on context, imo. People should generally leave other people's private property alone. But if it's an ugly cinderblock wall downtown, some kind of drab piece of infrastructure, and the graffiti artist is actually making an effort to make it look good - it can be public art

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Bonus points if it covers up a low effort ad

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Yeah I guess that's the issue. It has to look good. Otherwise it's just garbage on the walls.

Most of the time it does not look good (imo of course), but of course there are exceptions.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If it looks good, why not, but I'm certain no one would want a poorly drawn swastika as a graffiti.

Not sure how true 🤔 or not; but I heard in California ( where I lives ) graffiti is a felony :(
