Hot take, being a kid (and especially a teenager) sucks balls and as shitty as having to work for a living and take care of myself is I’d rather die than go back to being a child

Not sure if this is controversial, but as someone whose teenage years were really great and who has loving parents—sign me the fuck up. I would take going to high school over the vast majority of jobs. In my country, I would have between 10-14 weeks of vacation just from attending high school EVERY YEAR. Additionally, beer up to 5% is legal if you are 16 as a teenager in my country. I can take sick days whenever I feel like it and can skip class whenever I feel like it. Most high school subjects are pretty easy. I was really skilled at sports as a teenager, and my parents are chill as heck. Like, I can see very few downsides.
Obviously, I'm aware that some people got bullied in high school or had a rough childhood, but that differs from person to person. For me, I can't imagine a more relaxed life than my high school days, unless I was a multimillionaire with tons of assets.
I guess I need an “In the United States” asterisk lol
Outside of like, maybe New York City, being under the age of 16 in the US means you are completely at the will of your parents to be able to do anything at all, because you can’t drive. I spent most of my days after school just laying in bed bored out of my fucking mind on the internet because I couldn’t go anywhere. The nearest gas station was an hour walk, further for anything else. And even if I could get places, I had very little money to actually do things due to being a child.
The first time I felt any level of real freedom was when I turned 16 and got a car and a job. That was the first time I could really make my own decisions about what to do and where to go and how to spend my time.
Well, I can get everywhere via metro, and I don't even have a driver's license. Not dunking on you or anything, but that's simply a non-issue where I live and a very American problem.
:yea:
I'd rather get the free education again and try to do better than my shithead younger self
I would argue moreso that being a child IN THE US sucks. What I would give to be a kid again, but raised in London, despite its many many faults.
being in school: dealing with immature jerks
being an adult: dealing with immature jerks BUT now if they hit you its an actual crime
