Outside of like, maybe New York City, being under the age of 16 in the US means you are completely at the will of your parents to be able to do anything at all, because you can’t drive. I spent most of my days after school just laying in bed bored out of my fucking mind on the internet because I couldn’t go anywhere. The nearest gas station was an hour walk, further for anything else. And even if I could get places, I had very little money to actually do things due to being a child.

The first time I felt any level of real freedom was when I turned 16 and got a car and a job. That was the first time I could really make my own decisions about what to do and where to go and how to spend my time.

Well, I can get everywhere via metro, and I don't even have a driver's license. Not dunking on you or anything, but that's simply a non-issue where I live and a very American problem.
