I do like the belief that they are both not a US citizen and are one at the same time depending on convenience.

Isn't the cognitive dissonance amazing?

This sounds like the kind of person that breaks one of those Starbucks pay-it-forward chains but then after breaking it tries to order more stuff while trying to make the barista charge the person after them

(sidenote: I'm not a fan of those chains and wouldn't judge anyone who breaks them)

After reading about those weird pay it forward chains it seems like a completely idiotic thing that just puts social preassure on the person behind you.

I am glad we don't have those here in Sweden, and if I am ever in the US and happen to be forced into one, I'll ask them to skip me and pay for myself instead

[–] [email protected] 7 points 8 months ago

They can't skip you though, because your ticket already got paid. They can't just move the payment, that looks like criminal activity. They could void the payment that happened and let you pay, but it breaks the chain.

as a non American if someone else bought my drink I'd just think... wow, cheers mate. and probably wouldn't think about doing it to the person behind me. isn't that the point though? if I'm obligated to pay for someone else, it's no different to just paying for myself

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Exactly, it is just extra social preassure to pay.

Terrible concept

As an American who doesn't go to Starbucks (why does anyone? The coffee is shit.), I also think this is really dumb. If I ever get coffee, I usually just get plain black coffee, which is probably less than half the price of any of the other crap. Why should I pay for the overpriced junk someone else gets. I assume that's the point though, and it's designed by Starbucks to get people to not care about the price and get the most expensive things, because someone else is picking up their tab.

He hasn't filed his taxes, guaranteed his paycheck gets regular deductions. If you literally haven't paid taxes in 42 years, the government cares about that.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Like imagine that the government just let that go.

Theoretically he could just have been doing cash jobs for the last four decades. That's definitely still a thing in rural areas.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

Yeah but the taxman would notice someone just never paying taxes again

Well he did say “Abra kadabra” during a crescent moon on a leap year while holding two silver coins in one hand and a fig in the other, while facing exactly northwest while standing barefoot in an open field, six feet down in a hole because anything past 5’11” down isnt government property anymore, it’s technically the underworld, so…maybe he’s the first successful sovcit ever.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 8 months ago

Well, at least he doesn't feel entitled to more money than he put in.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago

It's just been taken as a token of faith for so many decades that social security will stop paying out. Any day now.

This is just sad

Edit: due to the ideology they've prescribed to.
